One of the finest African-American sci-fi authors, Octavia Butler was raised single-handedly by her widowed mother. Best known for the Patternist series and the short story Bloodchild, she often mingled mythology and spirituality in her work. She was the first sci-fi author to receive a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship.
Retired Colombian football defender Aquivaldo Mosquera made his senior career debut with Atlético Nacional in 2000. Over the years, he played for several other clubs most notably with Pachuca with whom he won Clausura 2006, Clausura 2007, Clausura 2016, CONCACAF Champions' Cup (2007) and Copa Sudamericana (2006). He also remained part of the Colombian national team from 2000 to 2013.
Jamaican bobsledder Dudley Stokes has been part of the Olympics 4 times. Also known as Tal, he was a founding member of the Jamaican bobsleigh team and later also worked as a coach. He is an entrepreneur, too. He was portrayed by actor John Candy in the film Cool Runnings.
Sofoklis Schortsanitis is a Greek former basketball player who helped the Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club win the 2014 EuroLeague title. He was also an important member of Greek national team and represented his country in the 2006 FIBA World Championship where he helped Greece win the silver medal. Sofoklis Schortsanitis is also a two-time Greek Cup winner.
