Eleanor Steber was an American operatic soprano who is widely regarded as one of the first American performers to have achieved stardom as an opera singer. Although her career was often disrupted by alcoholism and marital discord, Eleanor Steber established herself as a performer of the highest standards. After retiring, she taught music at famous conservatories like the Juilliard School.
