John Corbett was born on May 9, 1961 in Wheeling, West Virginia, USA to Sandra and John Marshall Corbett who were not married at the time of his birth. His parents got married when John was two years old, and divorced later on.

He was raised by his mother and stepfather. As a Catholic, he served as an altar boy at St. Joseph's Cathedral for about seven years.

Corbett studied at Wheeling Central Catholic High School and graduated in 1979. Following his graduation, he went on to stay with his father and stepmother.

He worked for Kaiser Steel for six years. Later, he enrolled at Cerritos College and studied hairdressing and acting there.

John Corbett first acted in the 1988 comedy-drama series ‘The Wonder Years’. Three years later, he landed a role in the movie ‘Flight of the Intruder’.

During 1995 and 1996, he featured in four episodes of the series ‘Days of Our Lives’. Soon after this, he started playing Adam MacArthur in the sci-fi series ‘The Visitor’.

In 1990, John Corbett started playing Chris Stevens in the comedy-drama television series ‘Northern Exposure’ that focussed on the eccentric residents of a fictional town in Alaska. The series ran till 1995 and got 57 award nominations, out of which it won 27, including two Golden Globes and four Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

From 2000 to 2003, the actor played Aidan Shaw in HBO’s hit series ‘Sex and the City’. Also starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon, the show follows a group of four women who remain inseparable despite their different characteristics and ever-changing sex lives.
