John Corbett is an American actor and singer. He received a Golden Globe Award nomination for his supporting role as Aidan Shaw in HBO’s ‘Sex and the City.’ He is also known for appearing as Chris Stevens in the comedy-drama ‘Northern Exposure,’ for which he garnered Golden Globe Award and Emmy Award nominations. On the big screen, the talented actor has played the male lead in the romantic comedy flick ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ and its sequel. As a singer, he has released two albums. Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, Corbett was raised by his mother and stepfather, both of who worked in the music industry. At the age of 16, he worked as a security guard, and later worked for Kaiser Steel for six years. He eventually studied hairdressing and acting at Cerritos College in Norwalk. Corbett has been in a relationship with actress cum producer Bo Derek since 2002. The two reside in Santa Ynez, California with their pet horses and dogs.
Childhood & Early Life
John Corbett was born on May 9, 1961 in Wheeling, West Virginia, USA to Sandra and John Marshall Corbett who were not married at the time of his birth. His parents got married when John was two years old, and divorced later on.
He was raised by his mother and stepfather. As a Catholic, he served as an altar boy at St. Joseph's Cathedral for about seven years.
Corbett studied at Wheeling Central Catholic High School and graduated in 1979. Following his graduation, he went on to stay with his father and stepmother.
He worked for Kaiser Steel for six years. Later, he enrolled at Cerritos College and studied hairdressing and acting there.
