He changed his name to Mike after moving to the US, where he invented a tennis-ball machine called The Dragon, with which he trained Andre.

João Gilberto was a Brazilian guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is best remembered as a pioneer of bossa nova and is sometimes referred to as the father of bossa nova. In 1965, his collaborative album Getz/Gilberto received three Grammy Awards including Album of the Year. In 2001, he was made an inductee of the International Latin Music Hall of Fame.

Hamilton O. Smith is an American microbiologist best known for winning the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering type II restriction endonuclease along with Daniel Nathans and Werner Arber. Hamilton O. Smith is also well-known as the leading figure in the field of genomics.

Abdulfattah Jandali is Apple founder Steve Jobs’s biological father. Jandali, a Syrian immigrant, was a University of Wisconsin professor when he met German-Swiss Joanne Carole Schieble, his student. Joanne became pregnant with Steve but couldn’t marry Jandali immediately due to her father’s disapproval, and thus gave Steve up for adoption.

Michael O. Rabin is an Israeli computer scientist and mathematician. He is best known for creating the popular Rabin–Karp string search algorithm. In 1976, Michael O. Rabin was honored with the prestigious Turing Award for a paper written in 1959. In 2010, Rabin was presented with the Tel Aviv University Dan David Prize.

Padma Vibhushan winner and nine-time Nobel Prize nominee theoretical physicist E. C. George Sudarshan was born in India but moved to the U.S. to study at the University of Rochester. He later joined Harvard and made ground-breaking discoveries in topics such as quantum optics, tachyons, and the quantum Zeno effect.

Ivan Klíma is a Czech playwright and novelist. A Holocaust survivor, Klíma went on to become an important writer. Over the course of his illustrious career, Ivan Klíma has received several prestigious awards such as the Franz Kafka Prize, the Magnesia Litera Award, and the Czech Literary Prize.
