When he was offered ownership of "Schmitty's Tavern" in Victoria, Minnesota, in 1990, the world gave him a little pity. He bought the building from a buddy with gaming profits and dived deeply into the hotel sector.Lindell adored Schmitty's. He was highly involved in the day-to-day operations and was a fan favorite among all of his customers. Sure, he was providing a place to drink, but he was also providing a sense of community - a place where people could feel like they belonged. A location he never had as a child or a teenager.

He became deeply interested in politics in 2018 and began speaking at Trump rallies. He worked with Trump on opioid addiction concerns the next year and attended Republican Party conferences.
By 2020, he had been chosen as Trump's re-election campaign's campaign chair. Mike's son assumed the role of the Chief Operating Officer for the Company in 2020, and he reiterated his anticipated future political aspirations. However, in 2021, the company was in a poor situation, losing a substantial amount of its customer and retailer base due to a lack of market research and attention to client demand. He is also a published author, having self-published his addiction recovery memoir, ‘What Are the Odds? from Crack Addict to CEO.’
He also launched a social media political commentary site called "Frank," in April 2021, but the launch was marred by technological issues. The site's goal was to disseminate conspiracy theories surrounding the 2020 presidential election.
