Childhood & Early Life

Mike Lindell was born in Mankato, Minnesota, in 1961. He spent much of his boyhood in the Minnesota cities of Chaska and Carver.

He grew up in a camper near a pickle factory in Chaska, Minnesota. Lindell was never exactly like other kids, which made it difficult for him to blend in. However, he learned at a young age that flaunting himself was a good approach to getting others to like him.

Mike is known for jumping from moving automobiles, getting stuck beneath an ice sheet after falling into a frozen lake, crashing two motorbikes, getting electrocuted, and skydiving with a half-opened parachute. Lindell enrolled at the University of Minnesota, but his studies were cut short. He learned to count cards while working as a part-time bartender after dropping out of university.

During his twenties, Mike got into cocaine addiction in the 1980s. He needed a harder substance to feed his addiction, so he moved to crack cocaine in the 1990s.

His years of drug usage were coupled with gambling habit, which resulted in foreclosure of his house and his wife filing for divorce. Mike was addicted to multiple narcotics, owing tens of thousands of dollars to bookies, and had a history of DUIs and thievery.

When he was offered ownership of "Schmitty's Tavern" in Victoria, Minnesota, in 1990, the world gave him a little pity. He bought the building from a buddy with gaming profits and dived deeply into the hotel sector.Lindell adored Schmitty's. He was highly involved in the day-to-day operations and was a fan favorite among all of his customers. Sure, he was providing a place to drink, but he was also providing a sense of community - a place where people could feel like they belonged. A location he never had as a child or a teenager.

People who knew Mike back then say he'd go on drug and alcohol binges for long periods of time, and they generally expected to find him dead sooner or later.

Mike claims that operating a bar taught him people skills, marketing, and networking. The tavern has a new name and new ownership, yet many of Mike's pals continue to frequent it.
