Miyamoto Musashi was a Japanese swordsman, writer, strategist, and philosopher. Widely regarded as a Kensei, Musashi became famous through his stories of bravery, which involves his undefeated streak of 61 duels. He is also credited with founding the Niten Ichi-ryū school of swordsmanship. His life has inspired several films, TV series, stage plays, and video games.

Nicholas Stone was an English sculptor and architect who served as the master-mason to James I and later Charles I. He is credited to have built the building of Inigo Jones' Banqueting House, among other prominent buildings. He also executed elaborate funerary monuments considered avant-garde by English standards in his era. He married Dutch sculptor Hendrick de Keyser’s daughter.   

Caspar de Crayer was a Flemish painter best remembered for his portraits and Counter-Reformation altarpieces. He also served as a court painter under the governors of the Southern Netherlands. Caspar de Crayer showcased his expertise in some of the most important cities of Flanders where he helped popularize the Rubens style. 

Edo period painter and calligrapher Shōkadō Shōjō was regarded as the one of the “three brushes” of the Kan-ei era. He revived the sō calligraphy style. His paintings showed elements of both the Japanese Yamato-e and the Chinese monochromatic tradition. Bamboo and Sparrows remains one of his best works.

French historian and geographer André Duchesne is regarded by many as the father of French history. Known for his critical collections of national history sources, he later served as the historiographer and geographer to the French king. One of his best-known works is Historiae Normannorum Scriptores Antiqui.

The daughter of Austria’s Archduke Charles II and Mary Anna of Bavaria, Margaret of Austria Queen of Spain, later became the queen of Spain and Portugal by virtue of her marriage to King Philip III of Spain, who was also Philip II of Portugal, Naples, Sicily, and Sardinia.
