Emilie Benes Brzezinski is a Swiss American sculptor best known for her sculptures made out of wood. Her monumental work Lintel, which was made from cut cherry trees, is currently preserved in a sculpture park named Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey. Over the years, Emilie Benes has displayed her work at several art exhibitions, including the Florence Biennale.

Viviane Wade is a French-born Senegalese public figure. Best known as the wife of former Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, Viviane achieved popularity for her service as the First Lady of Senegal from 1 April 2000 to 2 April 2012.

Rufina Pukhova was a Russian memoirist who wrote two memoirs about her husband Kim Philby, a British double agent for the Soviet Union. Pukhova is credited with helping Philby fight depression and alcoholism after his defection. After his controversial death in 1988, she vehemently denied rumors of suicide and maintained that he died of a heart condition.

Neile Adams is a Filipino-American dancer, actress, and singer. Before establishing herself in the American entertainment industry, Adams lived in Manila where she worked as a spy as part of the Philippine resistance movement during the Second World War. She then moved to the USA, where she became a dancer and actress.

Born in Paris, to a Polish-French father and a mother with Mexican origins, author Elena Poniatowska had begun her career as a journalist. Her iconic work Massacre in Mexico won her an award, which she refused to accept. She also became the first female to win Mexico’s National Journalism Prize.

Circe Maia is a Uruguayan essayist, poet, translator, and teacher. She achieved prominence as a poet despite facing difficulties brought on by the civil-military dictatorship of Uruguay. Although her career was affected by the political unrest in her country, Circe Maia managed to receive several prestigious awards such as the Premio Nacional de Poesía de Uruguay. 

Renowned history scholar and JNU professor Romila Thapar has also taught at Cornell and the University of Pennsylvania. She has previously been in the news for rejecting the Padma Bhushan twice, stating she didn’t accept state awards. She has also often opposed Hindutva and the “saffronization” of education.
