German actress, dancer, painter, and singer Christiane Kubrick, wife of accomplished filmmaker Stanley Kubrick, thrived as a painter showcasing a passion for floral settings and still life paintings. She featured in films like Paths of Glory and Love Is Just a Fairytale, while her works featured in two hit films of Stanley, namely A Clockwork Orange  and Eyes Wide Shut.  

Marjorie Jackson-Nelson is a former Australian athlete. She won two Olympic and seven Commonwealth Games Gold Medals. She was appointed the Governor of South Australia in 2001 and held this position until 2007. She was married to Olympic cyclist Peter Nelson who died in 1977. She has been inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.  

Emilie Benes Brzezinski is a Swiss American sculptor best known for her sculptures made out of wood. Her monumental work Lintel, which was made from cut cherry trees, is currently preserved in a sculpture park named Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey. Over the years, Emilie Benes has displayed her work at several art exhibitions, including the Florence Biennale.

Neile Adams is a Filipino-American dancer, actress, and singer. Before establishing herself in the American entertainment industry, Adams lived in Manila where she worked as a spy as part of the Philippine resistance movement during the Second World War. She then moved to the USA, where she became a dancer and actress.

Born in Paris, to a Polish-French father and a mother with Mexican origins, author Elena Poniatowska had begun her career as a journalist. Her iconic work Massacre in Mexico won her an award, which she refused to accept. She also became the first female to win Mexico’s National Journalism Prize.

Circe Maia is a Uruguayan essayist, poet, translator, and teacher. She achieved prominence as a poet despite facing difficulties brought on by the civil-military dictatorship of Uruguay. Although her career was affected by the political unrest in her country, Circe Maia managed to receive several prestigious awards such as the Premio Nacional de Poesía de Uruguay. 

Renowned history scholar and JNU professor Romila Thapar has also taught at Cornell and the University of Pennsylvania. She has previously been in the news for rejecting the Padma Bhushan twice, stating she didn’t accept state awards. She has also often opposed Hindutva and the “saffronization” of education.
