Zazie Beetz is a German-American actress well known for her role in the TV series ‘Atlanta’ and her character ‘Domino’ in the film ‘Deadpool 2’. The actress has received award nominations for her work in the film and TV series. She spent the early years of her life in Germany and then moved to the U.S., where she was exposed to acting and drama. She soon developed a passion for acting and decided to pursue it as a profession. She started her career by working in short films, progressing to minor roles in big screen films that led to her breakthrough role in ‘Atlanta’. Thereafter, she did several box office hits like ‘Geostorm’, ‘Deadpool 2’ and her most recent role was in the film ‘Joker’. In the short span of her career, she already has more than 16 movies and four TV shows to her name, plus four more movies in post-production. She is a social activist too and currently leads a full life balancing work, personal relationships and social media.
Zazie Beetz made her film debut in 2013 with the short film ‘The Crocotta’. In 2014, she worked on another short film ‘Beasts’. In 2015, she worked on big screen films like ‘James White’ and ‘Applesauce’ along with doing short films like ‘Double Bind’ and ‘5th & Palisade’. 2016 was a big year for her, where she worked on a short film ‘MBFF: Man's Best Friend Forever’ and had a minor role in ‘Wolves’. She also made her television debut that year by portraying the role of ‘Allie’ in the miniseries ‘Margot vs. Lily’. But her breakthrough role came in the form of ‘Vanessa ‘Van’ Keefer’ in the super-hit ‘FX’ channel comedy-drama series ‘Atlanta’ that year. She was also nominated for a ‘Primetime Emmy Award’ for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series’ for the show. She continued to work in ‘Atlanta’ till 2018.
From 2016 to 2019, she essayed the recurring role of ‘Noelle’ in the Netflix comedy-drama series ‘Easy’. In 2017, she played the part of ‘Courtney’ in the American-French drama film ‘Sollers Point’. She also portrayed the role of a cybersecurity expert ‘Dana’ in the disaster film ‘Geostorm’.
In 2018, she landed another hit role, that of the ‘Marvel Comics’ character ‘Domino’ in the super-hit movie ‘Deadpool 2’. She was nominated for a ‘Teen Choice Award’ for her work in this movie. The same year, she also acted in films like ‘Slice’ and ‘Dead Pigs’ along with a short film ‘That's Harassment’.
Propelled by her fame from ‘Deadpool2’ and ‘Atlanta’, in 2019, she began to take up roles in films like psychological horror flick ‘Wounds’, Netflix sports drama ‘High Flying Bird’, mystery-drama ‘The Undiscovered Country’ and political thriller ‘Seberg’, all spanning different genres. She was also seen in an episode of the TV series ‘The Twilight Zone’. But her most prominent role in 2019 has been in the recently released movie ‘Joker’ starring veteran actor Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role. Zazie played the ‘Joker's’ love interest ‘Sophie Dumond’ in this psychological thriller. In 2019, she will also be seen in films like ‘Lucy in the Sky’ and ‘Meet Me in a Happy Place’.
In 2020, she will be part of the film animated ‘Extinct’ where she has lent her voice to a character. She will also be seen in a science fiction film ‘Nine Days’, a TV series ‘Invincible’ and a Deadpool spin-off movie ‘X-Force’ in the future.

Zazie Olivia Beetz was born on 25 May 1991, in Berlin, Germany, to a German father and an African-American mother. Her father is a cabinet maker and her mother is a social worker from New York. She went to primary school in Berlin and then attended another school when her family moved to New York City. She grew up in the Washington Heights neighbourhood of Manhattan, New York. Due to her mixed cultural upbringing, she became fluent in both German and English.
She went to ‘Muscota New School’ and became interested in acting. She soon began performing in community theatre. In 2009, she graduated from ‘LaGuardia Arts High school’. In 2013, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in French from ‘Skidmore College’. She also attended ‘Harlem School of the Arts’, worked at an ‘H&M’ store as a student and lived for a year in Paris.
She reportedly started dating actor and writer, David Rysdahl, in 2016. She is a feminist and activist, who regularly campaigns for and creates awareness about several social issues. She also has many interesting hobbies like making her own kombucha, body scrubs and body butter. She is active on social media and once made a strange statement that she did not take a shower very often.
She currently lives in Harlem, New York, with her boyfriend.
