Family

Shareef Jackson’s father, Ice Cube, is originally from Los Angeles, California. He found initial fame as a member with a group named C.I.A. After their split, Ice Cube formed N.W.A. with Arabian Prince, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E in 1986. A year later, DJ Yella and MC Ren joined the group. Active between 1986 and 1991, N.W.A brought about drastic changes in rap as a musical genre. They received both praise and criticism for their explicit lyrics. Many radio stations in America declined to play their music. Despite this, the group was incredibly popular and has sold more than 10 million copies of their albums in US to date. Ice Cube made his departure from N.W.A. in 1989 to start his solo career, which has also been a successful venture. In the 1990s, all his albums, AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (1990), Death Certificate (1991), The Predator (1992), Lethal Injection (1993), and War & Peace Vol. 1 (The War Disc) (1998), received Platinum certification from the RIAA. He is active as a rapper even today. In 2018, he put out his latest album, Everythang's Corrupt. As an actor, he has worked in films like Boyz n the Hood (1991), Higher Learning (1995), the Barbershop films, and 21 Jump Street (2012) and its sequel 22 Jump Street (2014).

Shareef Jackson’s parents met when his mother, Kimberly Woodruff, was in college. For Ice Cube, it was love at first sight. However, that was not the case with Woodruff, as she was in a relationship at the time. They met once more six months later. This time, she was single and a relationship started to develop between the two. They started dating in 1988. In 1991, he proposed. She accepted and they exchanged wedding vows on April 26, 1992.

Kimberly Woodruff gave birth to their oldest child, Shareef’s oldest brother, O'Shea Jackson Jr., on February 24, 1991. On December 29, 1992, Darrell was born. Both of them are rappers. The former performs under the professional name OhMyGoodness (OMG), while the latter uses Doughboy, which is their father’s character’s nickname in his debut film Boyz n the Hood (1991). Karima Jacskon is into academics. After earning an M.A. degree, she works at Rutgers University Newark as a Research Assistant.

Shareef’s paternal grandparents are Hosea Jackson and Doris Benjamin. He has a paternal uncle named Clyde.

Upbringing

While being part of the family of a music royalty certainly has its perks, the constant exposure to the spotlight can have disastrous effects. Ice Cube and Woodruff have striven to maintain a level of normalcy in the lives of their children. They have been married for 27 years, something which is quite rare in the world of glamour. Since his youth, Ice Cube has been a practising Muslim. However, his religious beliefs are quite fluid. It is likely that he has raised his children to adhere to the same principles.

Shareef Jackson shares his father’s deep love for basketball and often accompanies him to the NBA games. He has been photographed wearing a basketball jersey several times.

Besides basketball, he is interested in American football and goes to the stadium with his family to watch the NFL games as well.
