Family

Deja Jackson's father, Ice Cube, is a California native. He garnered initial fame as a member of the group C.I.A. However, they disbanded only three years after their formation. He subsequently got together with Arabian Prince, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E to form N.W.A. (the abbreviated form of Niggaz Wit Attitudes) in 1986. A year later, DJ Yella and MC Ren became part of the group. They were active for five years in total, from 1986 to 1991, during which they completely revolutionised rap as a musical genre. They garnered both criticism and praise for their explicit lyrics. While many radio stations all over America refused to play their tracks, the group found millions of listeners for their music in US and beyond. Just in America alone, ten million copies of their albums have been sold. Ice Cube left N.W.A. in 1989 and went to make a highly successful transition into a solo artist. All of his solo albums released in the 1990s: AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (1990), Death Certificate (1991), The Predator (1992), Lethal Injection (1993), and War & Peace Vol. 1 (The War Disc) (1998), were certified Platinum by the RIAA. Ice Cube continues to make music even today. He put out his latest album, Everythang's Corrupt, in 2018. As an actor, he has appeared in a number of films, including Boyz n the Hood (1991), Higher Learning (1995), the Barbershop films, and 21 Jump Street (2012) and its sequel 22 Jump Street (2014).

Deja’s mother, Kimberly Woodruff, was a college student when she met Ice Cube. At the time, she was in a relationship. However, that did not stop the emerging rapper to be completely smitten with her. About six months later, they met once more. This time, she was single, and when he asked her out, she happily accepted. They began dating sometime in 1988. In 1991, they got engaged. On April 26, 1992, the couple tied the knot.

Their oldest child, Deja’s oldest brother, O'Shea Jackson Jr. was born on February 24, 1991. He was followed by Darryl on December 29, 1992. Ice Cube and Woodruff welcomed their third son, Shareef Jackson, into the world on November 17, 1995.

Both O'Shea Jr. and Darrell have begun their careers as rappers. In 2012, O'Shea Jr., who uses the professional name OhMyGoodness (OMG), put out his debut mixtape, Jackin' for Beats. He also released the singles OMG and Ain’t No Place in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Darrell releases his music under the professional name Doughboy, which comes from the nickname of his father’s character in Boyz n the Hood. O’Shea has found considerable success as an actor as well. After making his debut in his father’s film Janky Promoters, he portrayed a fictional version of his father in the 2015 biographical musical drama ‘Straight Outta Compton’. Deja’s sister Karima Jackson is an academic. After obtaining an M.A. degree, she is currently affiliated with Rutgers University Newark as a Research Assistant. Deja and her siblings’ paternal grandparents are Hosea Jackson and Doris Benjamin.

Upbringing

Despite the fact that the family has been constantly exposed to the spotlight. Ice Cube and Kimberly Woodruff have worked together to give their children a normal upbringing. In the world of glamour, marriages often do not last long. However, Ice Cube and Woodruff’s relationship is a rare exception. Married for the past 27 years, they have been together for the better part of their lives. Ice Cube is a practising Muslim, but his faith is incredibly fluid. He has imparted the same principles to his children.
