Ranbir Kapoor is an Indian actor and producer who is known for hit movies, such as 'Rockstar' and 'Barfi!' The son of popular Bollywood actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, he made his film debut with the tragic romance film 'Saawariya.' The film earned him a ‘Filmfare Award’ for ‘Best Male Debut.’ However, the film failed at the box office. Undaunted by his initial failure, he focused on his career. Over the next few years, he appeared in several successful films, such as 'Rajneeti,' 'Rockstar,' ‘Yeh Jawaani Hain Deewani,' and 'Barfi!' He also made a cameo appearance in the 2014 film 'PK' which became a huge hit worldwide, eventually becoming the sixth highest-grossing Indian film of all time. In 2018, he starred in 'Sanju,' the biopic of renowned Indian actor Sanjay Dutt. He bagged in a 'Filmfare Award' for his performance and earned critical acclaim. Kapoor, who is undoubtedly one of Bollywood's most popular actors, has won many awards, including six ‘Filmfare Awards.’ Other than acting, he is also known for his contributions to charitable activities and causes. A football enthusiast, he is the vice-captain of the ‘All Stars Football Club,’ a celebrity football club that helps raise money for charity. He donates to environmental organizations as well. He also helped raise funds for the victims of the April 2015 Nepal earthquake which killed nearly 9000 people.

Childhood & Early life

Ranbir Kapoor was born on September 28, 1982, in Mumbai, India. His parents, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, are well-known actors in Bollywood. He is the great grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor, a pioneer in Indian cinema, and the grandson of Raj Kapoor, a noted Indian film actor and director.

Kapoor attended ‘Bombay Scottish School,’ located near Mahim in Mumbai. He was not too much into academics. He had a difficult childhood because of his parents' troubled marriage. He didn't have a proper relationship with his father while growing up.
After passing his tenth standard examinations, he worked as an assistant director in his father's directorial debut 'Aa ab Laut Chale.’ During this period, his relationship with his father improved.
He completed his pre-university studies from ‘HR School of Commerce and Economics,’ after which he went to New York to attend the ‘School of Visual Arts’ where he learnt filmmaking. After his return to India, he worked as an assistant director in 'Black,' an Indian drama film, which became a huge success.
‘Black’ was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Kapoor’s experience working for the film was unpleasant as he had to work for long hours. He later stated that he worked in the film with hopes of landing an acting role in one of Bhansali’s upcoming movies.

Career
Two years after the release of ‘Black,’ Ranbir Kapoor appeared as the protagonist in Bhansali's romantic tragedy film 'Saawariya’ in 2007. Though the film wasn't a commercial success, it won Kapoor the ‘Filmfare Award’ for 'Best Male Debut.' In the film, he played ‘Raj’ who falls in love with a woman who awaits the return of her lover.
The following year, he played the main role in ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno,' a romantic drama directed by Siddharth Anand. The film, in which Kapoor played a womanizer, turned out to be a commercial success.
In 2009, he played the lead role in 'Wake up Sid!,' a romantic comedy drama directed by Ayan Mukerji. In the film, he portrayed the role of a spoiled rich kid who undergoes personality changes after he starts living with ‘Ayesha,’ an aspiring writer and journalist. Though the film depicted a romantic relationship between a younger man and an older woman, which is quite unusual in Bollywood, the film eventually became a hit.
The same year, he played the lead role in 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani,' which eventually became the fourth highest-grossing film of the year. He also appeared in another movie titled 'Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year' where he portrayed an aspiring salesman.

After appearing in several movies, such as 'Raajneeti' (2010) and 'Rockstar' (2011), he played the lead role in 'Barfi!' (2012), which became one of the highest-grossing films of the year. The story revolved around a mute and deaf Nepali boy from Darjeeling and his relationships with two women. The film became India's official entry for the ‘Academy Award’ for ‘Best Foreign Language Film.’ However, it failed to earn a nomination.

His role in the 2013 romantic drama 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' was also appreciated. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film was a huge commercial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films of the year. The film earned Kapoor a ‘Filmfare Award’ nomination for ‘Best Actor.’
He was seen in other movies, such as 'Roy' (2015), 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' (2016), and 'Jagga Jasoos' (2017).
In 2018, he portrayed the famed Indian actor Sanjay Dutt in the biographical drama ‘Sanju.’ Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, it became the highest-grossing movie of the year and earned Kapoor critical appreciation. It also earned him a ‘Filmfare Award’ for ‘Best Actor.’

Ranbir Kapoor played one of the lead roles in ‘Raajneeti,’ a political crime thriller, which released in 2010. Along with Kapoor, the film starred several other popular actors, such as Ajay Devgn, Nana Patekar, Arjun Rampal, Naseeruddin Shah, Katrina Kaif, and Manoj Bajpayee. The 2018 film ‘Sanju’ is also among Kapoor’s best works. In the film, he portrayed Sanjay Dutt. The film follows Dutt’s life and his controversies, including drug abuse, alleged association with a terrorist outfit, and prison term. It became the highest-grossing film of the year, and earned Kapoor a ‘Filmfare Award’ for ‘Best Actor.’

Ranbir Kapoor was in a relationship with actress Deepika Padukone from 2008 to 2009. In 2009, he started dating actress Katrina Kaif, and the two were in a relationship for more than six years. In 2018, he started dating actress Alia Bhatt, his co-star from the movie ‘Brahmastra.’ On April 14, 2022, the couple got married in a traditional ceremony in Mumbai. In July 2022, Ranbir and Alia announced that they are expecting their first child together. On November 6, 2022, the couple welcomed their daughter named Raha.
