CoryxKenshin took break from YouTube in 2019 for much needed rest and relaxation. During his hiatus, he went to Japan, New York and to other places.

Career

The first video CoryxKenshin ever uploaded was on May 25, 2009, at the age of sixteen, where he talked about girls, dating, and the movie Hitch. At the beginning of his stint on YouTube, he was primarily a vlogger. He focused his content on his school life and then when he was in college, on that, often editing snippets of videos of himself and his friends. He posted videos once or twice a week, which hasn't changed much since then. Sometimes they become even more sporadic than that. He took a break from YouTube in late 2011, returning in April 2013.

White Finger, a short survival horror/slasher, is the first game he recorded himself playing in October 2013. The first game series he did was Super Punch Out', a 1994 sports game. In 2015, fellow YouTuber, Caillou Pettis, helped him get verified on YouTube. On July 6, 2017, CoryxKenshin posted the video Try Not To Laugh Challenge.. TEARS FAM.. TEARS; which is one of his most popular videos.

Since 2013, CoryxKenshin truly has found his footing. The 1,000,000th subscriber signed on to become a samurai on November 19, 2016. Currently, he has more than 17.7 million subscribers to his YouTube channel.

Family & Personal Life

CoryxKenshin was born Cory Williams on November 9, 1992, in Detroit City, Michigan, to Anthony K. Williams Jr., an employee at the Ford Motors Company, and his wife, Stephanie. He has two younger siblings, a sister, Aleya, and a brother, Anthony. He enrolled in the Michigan State University to study Media Arts in 2010 and left in 2012. CoryxKenshin then attended the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor from 2012 to 2016, pursuing a degree in Computer Science (Game Development), but dropped out for a full-time career on YouTube.

CoryxKenshin is deeply religious and often adds Bible verses at the end of his videos. He never curses or swears in his videos, something that makes him stand out among the other Let's Play commentators. Answering a question from one of his audience members on whether he curses and then edits them out, CoryxKenshin once said, “No ... because I don't curse in real life, so why would I curse in YouTube video?”

CoryxKenshin regards NDTitanLady (Natalie Duran) as his inspiration for joining YouTube. He is also friends with famous YouTubers, such as Muyskerm, Yamimash, LordMinion777, Jacksepticeye, TearofGrace, BangBangBrandon, and POiiSED among others, and has collaborated with a few of them.

Controversies and Scandals

In 2022, CoryxKenshin released a video where he accused YouTube of racism and favoritism. He alleged that one of his gaming videos was age-restricted which not only reduced its visibility but also demonetized it. After his appeal was rejected, CoryxKenshin shared a video of another YouTuber playing the same game to the YouTube management. This led his video to become unrestricted. According to CoryxKenshin, this naturally meant YouTube was promoting their favorite creators while subduing others.
