Charmx is the online alias of Canadian former YouTuber, reactor, gamer, comedian, musician, game developer, animator, and author Karl Cloutier. He is best known for running the channel Charmx with 1 million subscribers, as well as the channels Charmx2, Charmx3 and Charmx Plays. He had started out with gaming videos but became popular for his reaction videos, particularly his series called ‘YouTube Poops’ on Charmx3. He also had a few other channels, but eventually abandoned YouTube altogether and deleted all his past videos after being constantly harassed by strikes on his videos on the platform. He always wore a beanie in his videos and kept it a mystery how he looked like without it.

Charmx first joined YouTube with the channel DoYoTing on March 31, 2013 to share reviews of his favorite games. He renamed the channel to TheCriticalBastard within months, and had started to attract subscribers from a gaming forum he frequented. Nevertheless, he abandoned the channel and created a new one called CharmxGames in April 2014, which started out as a gaming channel but eventually transitioned to a reaction channel and was renamed to Charmx.
He created another channel, Charmx2, on December 10, 2015 due to too many takedown requests and it became his primary channel in February 2016 after he decided to retire the Charmx channel in order to avoid a third strike on it, even though it was ultimately taken down due to multiple copyright infringements. Once again, he renamed the other channel to Charmx and went on to earn 813,011 subscribers on it before it was again shut down due to copyright issues on August 14, 2017.
By that time, he had already created a new Charmx2 channel in February 2017, as well as another channel, simply called Charmx, on July 22, 2017, which went on to become his main channel after the previous one was gone. He further created a new channel called Charmx3 in November 2017 in which he focused on Poop reactions. His current main channel Charmx went on to surpass the success of his previous channel by reaching the 1 million subscribers milestone in August 2020.
Charmx eventually became fed up with YouTube’s system for dealing with content strikes which he described as “stupid” and “ridiculous” in his penultimate video ‘Thank you’, posted on March 31, 2021. In the video, he revealed that he was unable to express himself fully on the platform without harming his channel, disclosing that he was getting strikes on his old videos that were uploaded years ago and had no way of fighting those as YouTube not only blocked the videos from viewers, but even from him, the creator. Even though he did not know what he will be doing next, he decided to end his YouTube career and felt that he had achieved everything he had wanted to achieve, both on YouTube and in life, adding that he had written a book, had produced apps for phones and had made a computer game.
Charmx, who had previously deleted all videos from his other channels Charmx2 and Charmx3 because of anxiety and paranoia, stated in the video that he would delete his remaining videos as well because he wished to be forgotten as he would like to lead a normal life without being recognized in the public. He also briefly reiterated how he was in a “dark place” before starting YouTube, something he had previously mentioned in an older video. In fact, he had a suicide date planned before discovering YouTube and finding his own religion.
In another video titled This had to happen, I'm sorry, he had revealed being on schizophrenia medication and not taking full doses. He ended his penultimate video mentioning that he will be uploading one last video in which he will be talking about his faith as a Christian, with the comments disabled to discourage further discussions. That final video, titled This is my last video, which he had made weeks ago after feeling he was going to die soon, was uploaded the same day on March 31, 2021.
Charmx was born as Karl Cloutier on September 30, 1994 in Ontario, Canada. He has a younger brother. He completed his school graduation in 2012. Before joining YouTube, he worked at a fast-food restaurant, and even though the pay was good, he didn’t enjoy the job. In 2018, he mentioned that he resented living with his parents and had made a resolution to move out by the end of the year. When that did not work out even in 2019, he mentioned moving in with a friend in 2020 and eventually got his own apartment in early 2021.
