Swedish Female Musicians

As one half of the Swedish pop rock duo Roxette (with Per Gessle), singer and songwriter Marie Fredriksson enjoyed international fame in the 1980s-1990s with albums like Look Sharp! and Joyride. Their single It Must Have Been Love was featured in the movie Pretty Woman. Earlier, in Sweden ,she had also enjoyed success as a solo artist releasing numerous albums.

Robyn is a Swedish singer, record producer, songwriter, and DJ. Her debut album Robyn Is Here helped launch Karl Martin Sandberg's career in pop music. She has also been recognized as an influence by artistes like Taylor Swift, Lorde, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Christine and the Queens. Robyn has won many awards like AMFT Awards, GAFFA Awards, and Grammis Awards.

Born Shahrzad Fooladi, to Iranian parents in Sweden, Snoh Aalegra had started writing songs by age 9 and signed with Sony at age 13. She changed her name after moving to the US and soared to fame with her chartbusting tracks such as I Want You Around and Find Someone Like You.

Neneh Cherry is a Swedish rapper, singer, songwriter, occasional DJ, and broadcaster. After starting her musical career in the early 1980s in London, Cherry went on to become one of the most decorated Swedish musicians of her generation. Over the years, Neneh Cherry has received many prestigious awards such as Brit Awards, MTV Europe Music Award, and NME Award.

Swedish singer, songwriter, and record producer Loreen soared to fame after winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. Born Lorine Zeineb Nora Talhaoui, the Moroccan-origin singer created chartbusting tracks such as Crying Out Your Name and My Heart Is Refusing Me. Politically and socially conscious, she was also a Swedish Committee for Afghanistan ambassador.

Swedish indie-pop singer Lykke Li was born into a musical family, her father being a member of the band Dag Vag. Known for her award-winning tracks such as I Follow Rivers and Sadness Is a Blessing, she is also an advocate of transcendental meditation. She has a son with musician Jeff Bhasker.

Linda Ulvaeus is a Swedish singer and actress. The daughter of popular singers Agnetha Fältskog and Björn Ulvaeus, Linda started her career as a singer before going on to establish herself as a prominent actress. She has played important roles in films like Meningen med alltihopa and Quick.

Jennifer Åkerman is a Swedish model, singer-songwriter, and blogger. The youngest sister of Malin Åkerman, Jennifer followed in the footsteps of her sister and became a model. She also pursued a musical career and has contributed to the success of bands like Bella Tech and Bloke & Bird. In 2013, Jennifer showcased her dancing skills by participating in Let's Dance.

Elliphant is a Swedish rapper, singer, and songwriter. She is best known for her second studio album Living Life Golden, which peaked at number 76 and 50 on the ARIA Charts and Sverigetopplistan respectively. A popular figure, Elliphant often gets featured on songs released by other popular artistes like Loreen and Tove Lo.

Swedish singer Tove Styrke first gained fame with the show Swedish Idol 2009. The renowned electropop singer was born to a musician father and a ballet instructor mother and was naturally inclined toward music. Best known for chartbusting tracks such as Say My Name, she often experiments with themes of fantasy and desire.

A Swedish singer and songwriter, Léon shot to international fame with her first single, Tired of Talking. Her musical works comprise three studio albums and five EPs. She has also collaborated with English DJ, record producer and songwriter for a non-album single Hear Me Say. Belonging to a musical family, she began her career in teens with a hip-hop group.

Seinabo Sey is a Swedish singer who achieved popularity in 2013 when she released her international hit song Younger. Laleh is an Iranian-Swedish singer, record producer, songwriter, pianist, guitarist, record company manager, and actress. She achieved popularity in 2005 when she released her eponymous debut album which became the highest selling album in Sweden in 2005. This multi-talented artiste has also won a number of awards including Grammis Awards and P3 Guld Awards.

Petra Marklund is a Swedish singer-songwriter best known for her hit single Cry for You which peaked at number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart. The song is part of her third studio album In Orbit, which earned her a Grammi Award. Petra Marklund is also known for her hit single Mikrofonkåt, which was certified 8x Platinum in Sweden.      

Helena, or Elena, Paparizou is one of Greece’s finest singers. The Swedish-born musician started her career as part of the folk/Eurodance duo Antique. She soared to fame after winning Eurovision 2005, singing My Number One, becoming the first Greek to win the contest ever. She is now one of Greece’s most powerful celebrities.

Titiyo is a Swedish singer-songwriter best known for her studio albums This Is Titiyo and Come Along, both of which peaked at number one on the Swedish national record chart, Sverigetopplistan. She also won a Grammi Award for the song Come Along. Titiyo has three other Grammis under her belt. 

Camilla Henemark became known as a member of the Swedish dance pop group Army of Lovers with which she primarily worked from 1987 to 1992, and later from 1995 to 1997 and then in 2013. Also known as La Camilla, she has done television, film and theatre projects too. These include the miniseries Kenny Starfighter and the film Jarrett (Encounters).

Sofia Karlberg is a Swedish singer-songwriter best known for creating covers of popular songs for her self-titled YouTube channel, which has millions of subscribers. Karlberg achieved popularity when her cover of Beyoncé's Crazy in Love went viral. In 2016, Sofia Karlberg signed a deal with Universal Music and released an original EP called Spotless Mind.

Charlotte Perrelli is a Swedish singer and TV host. She achieved national prominence when she won the 1999 Melodifestivalen. The same year, she also achieved international recognition when she won the Eurovision Song Contest where she represented Sweden with the song Take Me to Your Heaven. Charlotte Perrelli is regarded as one of the most famous female singers from Sweden.

Molly Nilsson is a Swedish musician, singer, and songwriter. Unlike many other artistes from Sweden, Nilsson owns an independent record label named Dark Skies Association through which she releases her own music.  

Popular Finnish-Swedish singer and songwriter Miriam Bryant rose to fame with her debut single Finders, Keepers and her debut album Raised in Rain. Her later single Black Car won the Song of the Year award in Sweden (2016). Additionally, she has also sung the lead track, Find You, from the Hollywood movie Divergent in collaboration with Zedd and Matthew Kom.

Swedish singer-songwriter Veronica Maggio began her career with a pop band before going solo. She released her debut single in March 2006 and her debut album in September 2016, which peaking at number 14 at the Swedish chart. Since then, she has been making regular releases, peaking at number one position with her subsequent albums, winning multiple awards for her music.

Emilia Rydberg is a Swedish soul and pop music singer best known for her 1998 single Big Big World which topped the music charts in countries like Austria, Belgium, Germany, Norway, and Switzerland. Her debut studio album of the same name peaked at number six on the GfK Entertainment charts.

For a teenager raised in small Swedish village, it needed courage to even dream of becoming a star. Yet, Jonna Lee ran away to London, where she began her career in music, returning home around the age of twenty-one. Currently hailed as a successful singer-songwriter-record producer, she is also the co-creator of an electronic music and audiovisual project called iamamiwhoami.   

Meja is a Swedish composer, singer, and artist. Among her best known works are Grammy Award-nominated song All 'Bout the Money and a duet with Ricky Martin titled Private Emotion. Meja is also renowned for her second studio album Seven Sisters, which peaked at number one on Norway's VG-lista chart.

Agnes is a Swedish singer who achieved popularity in 2005 when she won the popular TV show, Idol. She is also known for her singles, Release Me and On and On, which became international hits. Over the years, she has received many prestigious awards including MTV Europe Music Award. Agnes is also credited with founding her own record label, Senga.

Sarah Dawn Finer is a Swedish actress, singer, and songwriter. She is best known for her portrayal of Lynda Woodruff, the spokesperson of the EBU in the Eurovision Song Contest and Melodifestivalen. Sarah Dawn Finer is also known for competing in multiple Melodifestivalen contests and Eurovision Song Contests. Her second studio album Moving On peaked at number one on Sverigetopplistan.

Better known simply as Nea, Swedish singer and songwriter, Linnea Sodahl studied songwriting and producing at Musikmakarna in Örnsköldsvik, winning Music Publishers' Prize the very year she graduated from there. Since then, she has been writing songs for many well-known artists, winning multiple awards for her work, eventually debuting as a singer with Some Day as later as in 2019.  

Angie is a Swedish singer, songwriter, and rapper. She achieved popularity with her controversial singles, Smoke Weed Eat Pussy and Sad Sex. Openly bisexual and an ardent supporter of cannabis as a recreational drug, Angie is often seen as a representative of the liberal-minded revolution.

Jill Johnson is a Swedish singer, songwriter, and television host. She achieved popularity in 1998 when she competed at the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 after having won the Melodifestivalen 1998 contest with the song Kärleken är. Since then, Jill Johnson has become one of the most popular and successful artistes in Sweden.

Lisa Miskovsky is a Swedish singer, songwriter, and musician. She is best known for her self-titled album which earned her two Swedish Rock Bear Awards under the Best Swedish Newcomer and Best Swedish Female Artist of the Year categories. Miskovsky is also known for her second studio album Fallingwater which peaked at number one on Sverigetopplistan and earned platinum certification.

Pandora is a Swedish Eurodance singer who achieved popularity during the 1990s and mid-2000s. Her debut album One of a Kind was certified gold in Finland and Sweden and established Pandora as one of the best-selling dance acts in Scandinavia. Pandora has also appeared on TV shows like Masked Singer Suomi, the Finnish version of Masked Singer. 

Victoria Bergsman is a Swedish musician, vocalist, and songwriter best known for her association with the popular band The Concretes where she was active from 1995 to 2006. Bergsman has been focusing on her solo career since announcing her departure from The Concretes in 2006.

Miss Li is a Swedish singer-songwriter whose songs have been featured in numerous American television series and Swedish commercials. She is best known for her albums Wolves and Underbart i all misär, which peaked at number two and one respectively on Sverigetopplistan. Miss Li has also released several gold and platinum-certified singles.

A renowned Swedish operatic soprano from the 19th century, Christina Nilsson ruled the world opera scene for 20 years. She was often compared to fellow opera star Adelina Patti and finds a mention in Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. One of her most iconic roles was that of Marguerite in Charles Gounod's Faust.
