On June 12, 2009, Shelby created her YouTube channel, ‘teenmakeuptips.’ But she did not post any video as she was unsure about the content. She was not finding anything interesting to post. Two months later, she finally uploaded her first video titled, ‘Follow Me Around: Gymnastics Practice.’ The video was a short clip of her gymnastics practice.

The next video that she posted was a proper vlog. Shelby posted a full-length video, showcasing the routine that she follows before heading to school. Thereafter, she posted a funny video titled as ‘Shit Beauty Gurus Say.’ The video mocked other popular fashion and beauty vloggers. In the video, Shelby pointed out a few things that do not make any sense.

Shelby makes conscious effort to post videos that are relatable. Even in her makeup tutorials or hair styling videos, she focuses on using minimal products and tries to style her hair without using any heating tools. Her skin and hair care regimes are often useful for female athletes and swimmers, who need to take care of their skin after their respective practice session.

Shelby strives towards changing the misconception that sportswomen cannot have great skin and hair. Since she had experienced the after-effects of swimming on skin, she always comes up with useful tips to minimize the effect of chlorine on skin and hair. Shelby later included a variety of videos to her channel by posting DIYs, and life hack videos.

It was her shopping hauls and look book videos that got her real fame. Every time she goes shopping, her viewers get to see her haul videos. Even if she shops anything to decorate her room, she shares it with her fans. Shelby connects with her fans really well. No wonder her channel has earned more than 1.7 million subscribers.
