Modeling Career

Shakira Caine began her modeling career with her participation in the Miss Guyana contest which she went on to win. At the age of 19, she emerged as the second runner-up at the 1967 Miss World contest. After the contests, she went on to model for many companies. Since 1991, she has been a member of the International Best Dressed List.

Acting Career

Shakira Caine has acted in several films. In 1969, she appeared in the British comedy spy movie ‘Some Girls Do’ as well as in ‘Carry On Again Doctor.’ The following year, she acted in ‘Toomorrow,’ a musical film. In 1974, she got featured in ‘Son of Dracula.’ A year later, she starred alongside her husband in the adventure flick ‘The Man Who Would Be King’. Besides the big screen, she also acted in two episodes of the TV series, ‘UFO.’

Relationship with Michael Caine

Michael Caine first noticed Shakira in a British television commercial for Maxwell House coffee in 1971. He became obsessed with her and found her to be the most beautiful woman he had ever come across. In fact, he was so smitten that he was willing to fly to Brazil to find Shakira! However, he soon found that she lived in London too. Through a friend in the advertising business, Caine discovered that Shakira lived only a few miles from his house. The two met each other, began dating, and eventually got married in Las Vegas on January 8, 1973. Together, they have one daughter named Natasha Haleema.

Shakira is a Muslim while Caine is a Christian. He once stated in an interview that he does “Christian stuff” and his wife does “Muslim stuff.” He also stated that no questions ever come up regarding their respective religions and beliefs. The veteran actor added that his view of Muslims is “very peaceful and benign,” as compared to the media’s.

Caine was earlier married to actress Patricia Haines from 1955 to 1962. The couple had a daughter, Dominique. In 1968, the he dated Bianca Jagger. However, it was only after meeting Shakira that he realized the true meaning of love and marriage. He considers her to be his “right-hand man,” his confidante. He once stated that although he was already famous when he met her, he couldn’t have gotten this far without her. The Oscar-winning actor also credits his second wife for making him a person of better character. Caine, who was once addicted to drinking and smoking, was saved from his addictions by her. Even though she didn’t tell him to stop drinking, her very presence motivated him to change his habits.
