Park Si-yeon is a South Korean actress, best known for playing important roles in television series, such as ‘The Innocent Man’ and ‘Coffee House.’ She began her acting career after participating in the Miss Korea pageant in 2000. Park had her fair share of struggle before she could finally become a successful actress. After appearing in the 2005 TV series ‘My Girl’ she was highly criticized. The drama, which was aired on SBS, was a hit, but it failed to provide Park the recognition that she was hoping for. However, she gradually improved her skills and eventually delivered remarkable performances in ‘La Dolce Vita’ (2008), ‘Coffee House’ (2010), and ‘The Innocent Man’ (2012). She also went on to star in movies, such as ‘The Fox Family’ (2006), ‘A Love’ (2007), ‘Marine Boy’ (2008), and ‘The Scent’ (2012). Park has also made numerous appearances in music videos, which include ‘Habit’ by Woo Soo, ‘After Love’ by Park Hyo-shin, and ‘Rainy Day’ by Jung-in.

Childhood & Early Life
She was born Park Mi-seon on March 29, 1979, in Busan, South Korea. As a kid, she was very shy and only had a few friends.
During a Lunar New Year, when she was asked to sing in front of her father, she started crying out of fear. She was then sent to a singing school in an attempt to elevate her confidence.
After gaining confidence, Park started singing in front of music lovers and even won the top prize in a children’s music contest, which was aired on KBS in 1990.
She always wanted to become an actress, but her parents were not supportive of her dreams so she ended up graduating in Journalism from Long Island University.
She was still pursuing her studies when she decided to participate in the Miss Seoul beauty pageant. She came third, and this success encouraged her to participate in the Miss Korea pageant.
In 2000, she participated in the Miss Korea beauty pageant and managed to turn many heads. By participating in beauty contests, she became more confident and started to thinking about pursuing a career in acting.

Early Acting Career
Her parents were not fully supportive of her decision to become an actress, but Park kept exploring acting opportunities. As a result of her endeavors, she was finally signed by a Chinese agency and started auditioning for various Chinese television shows.
In 2004, she appeared in three CCTV (China Central Television) dramas, namely ‘Feng Qiu Huang’ ‘Han Xue Bao Ma’ and ‘Lotus Lantern’.
She also signed an advertising contract with a cosmetic company, ‘Enpranai’.
Acting Career
She made her mainstream acting debut in 2005 with the Korean television drama ‘My Girl.’ Though the show was a hit, but Park’s acting skills were criticized and her inclusion in the series was also questioned.
However, the criticism didn’t stop her from trying her luck in various other TV series and films, and she continued appearing in minor roles. Some of the series that she was seen in during this phase of her career are ‘Please Come Back, Soon-ae’, ‘Yeon Gaesomun’ and ‘Hyena.’
In 2006, she made her film debut in a comedy-horror-musical titled ‘The Fox Family.’ She came up with a better performance in the film, and then appeared in many other movies, such as ‘Zig-Zag Love’ (2007), and ‘A Love’ (2007).
She next appeared in the 2008 TV drama ‘La Dolce Vita’ in a challenging role. The same year, she starred in a spy parody film titled ‘Dachimawa Lee’. In the film, she played the role of an agent.
In 2009, she appeared as Seo Kyung-ah in ‘The Slingshot.’ The series, aired on KBS2, was successful in terms of ratings. She also appeared in ‘Drama Special’, which was aired on KBS2. In the series, she played a character named Yoo-hee.
She then starred in another movie ‘Marine Boy’ in 2009. She also worked in a variety show called ‘Family Outing’ in which celebrities were forced to handle various aspects of rural life.

In 2010, she played an extremely cheerful and caring woman in MBC network’s ‘Coffee House’.
After two years, Park made a comeback with the 2012 movie, ‘The Scent.’ She played an adorable woman who is the sole witness of a double murder. Despite negative reviews from critics, the movie performed well at the box office.
She also starred in KBS2’s melodrama, ‘The Innocent Man’, where she appeared as a woman who betrays her lover. Her role received a positive response from critics as well as the audience.
She returned to television in 2014 with ‘The Greatest Marriage’ where she portrayed the character of a successful anchor who is also a struggling single mother.
In 2015, she starred in an action movie titled ‘The Last Knights.’ It was also Park’s Hollywood debut and she starred alongside actors, such as Clive Owen, Ahn Sung-ki, and Morgan Freeman.
In 2016, she starred in a series titled ‘Fantastic’ in which she played an unhappy wife of a congressman. The series was aired on JTBC network.
In 2017, she was seen in ‘Guesthouse Daughters’. The show, aired on KBS, was taken off-air after a few episodes.
Other Works
In 2010, she was chosen as the creative director for a US-based Korean fashion company, ‘Moeim Style.’ She also worked for the company’s brand, ‘TOUCH.’
Park was amongst the eight actors and actresses who recorded a charity song without any professional support. The track was titled ‘Winter Story’, and was released on December 5, 2011.
Awards & Achievements
In 2000, Park won the third place in ‘Miss Seoul Beauty Pageant.’
At the 2006 SBS Drama Awards, she won the ‘New Star Award’ for ‘My Girl.’
She bagged the prestigious ‘Best New Actress’ award for ‘The Fox Family’ at the 43rd Baeksang Arts Awards in 2007.
She also won the ‘Best New Actress’ award for ‘A Love’ at the 27th Korean Association of Film Critics’ Awards in 2007.
Personal Life
She first became popular in 2004 as the girlfriend of singer-actor Eric Mun. Eric and Park broke up in 2007.
She got married to Park Sang-hun at the Seoul Hyatt Hotel on November 19, 2011. She has two daughters from this marriage.
In 2013, she was found guilty for taking propofol, an illegal substance. She was sentenced to eight months in prison by Seoul Central District Court, and also got suspended for two years. Park filed for a divorce in 2016.
