Lim Ji-yeon, popularly known as Lim, is a South Korean actress. Lim has worked in several short films, series, and plays but is best known for her performance in the film ‘Obsessed’. She is a born actress and her dedication towards her work is tremendous. This is evident from the fact that she analyses and does thorough research just to get into the skin of her character. For Lim, the portrayal of the character holds greater importance than the script. Gifted with sharp but innocent facial features, Lim has shown different character shades and has never been preyto the process of typecasting. In her short career span, Lim has already bagged several prestigious awards for her terrific works.

Childhood & Early Life
Lim was born on June 23, 1990 in South Korea. Since she is new to the industry, not much information is available about her family and childhood.
She is an alumnus of Korea National University of Arts from where she graduated with major in Performing Arts. Lim always wanted to become an actress and did many modelling assignments during her college days.
Modelling and stage-plays helped her to get into the film industry and hence was offered few short films during this period.

Career
Lim’s acting started with short films and series way before she debuted in ‘Obsessed’. The period from 2010 to 2013 can be regarded as her struggling phase as her reoccurrence on screen with short films and series couldn’t get her the much-deserved limelight.
Lim also did theatre during this period and some of her theatre works are ‘Taxi Driver’, ‘Sea Fog’ and ‘La Culotte’. She also featured in a music video for the track ‘The Season’ sung by Lee Ho-suk.
A meeting with director Kim Dae-woo got her the first commercial feature film. Kim, who had directed some super hits, was completely smitten by Lim’s charm and charisma. He instantly signed her for his next venture and Lim became the lead for the erotic thriller ‘Obsessed’, which released in 2014.
Initially the critics were sceptical about her inexperience as the script demanded a methodical acting. But Lim looked so natural, even while performing the bold scenes that her inexperience didn’t matter anymore.
‘Obsessed’ became a huge success and Lim’s dream of becoming a mainstream actress came true. Her performance was well received both by the audience and the critics.
Her next venture was a period film named ‘The Treacherous’, released in 2015. With this film, she yet again proved herself as an actress. Lim was highly impressed by the script and the charisma of the characters involved.
After her back-to-back big screen hits, Lim appeared in television series namely ‘High Society’ and ‘Jackpot’.
Lim also did two reality shows namely ‘Law of the Jungle’ and ‘Running Man’ released in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

When September Ends – Released in 2013, this is one of the many short films Lim acted in during her initial acting days. Lim played a character named Ji-yeon in this romantic drama.

Obsessed –Released in 2014, this is Lim’s debut commercial film.It was an erotic thriller romantic film and Lim was cast opposite South Korean actor Song Seung-heon. She played the character of Ga-heun, wife of an army man. Lim had few nude scenes with the male lead in this film to which critics showed their apprehension initially. The film was a blockbuster and Lim became a star overnight.
The Treacherous –Released on May 21, 2015, this is Lim’s second feature film. This film is about an oppressive king who sexually exploits all the women of his country for his own pleasure. Dan-hee, played by Lim, is a beautiful woman who belongs to the lower cast and is a butcher by profession. This film too had some bold scenes which categorized Lim as a serious and mature actress. The film was a huge commercial success and grossed 8.09 million Dollars.
Television
Law of the Jungle – This adventure reality show was a new concept in South Korean television. The show aired its first episode on October 21, 2011, but Lim was seen in the episodes aired from March 27 to May 22, 2015. The theme for her group was the family putting up in the jungle. Because of its unique content, the show was a tremendous hit and won almost all the awards in the reality-show category.
The Privileged – This was a 16 episode series aired from June 8, 2015. The series was initially named as ‘High Society’. Lim played as Lee Ji-yi, the best friend of the female lead. She was paired with actor Park Hyung-sik. Lim’s performance was quite appreciated by the critics and the young audience received it well. However, the series received an average reception and was later aired internationally in Vietnam.
Jackpot – This was a period television drama, aired on March 28, 2016 for 24 episodes. Also named ‘The Royal Gambler’, the series is about a king who removes his son from the beneficiaries of the property will because he is a pro in gambling. The prince is then forced to live like a commoner. Lim played Dam-seo, who seeks her vengeance. The ratings for the series fluctuated during its first season. This drama was also aired internationally on a Los Angeles channel.
Doctor Crush – This South Korean television series was aired on 2016 in which Lim had a guest appearance in two of its episodes. She played a gold medallist archer.
Blow Breeze – This is a family television drama aired on 2016. Lim played Kim Mi-poong, a happy go lucky girl who later gets involved in family legal inheritance matters. This series too was aired internationally in Taiwan and Vietnam.
Awards & Achievements
34th Korean Association of Film Critics’ Awards (2014) – Lim bagged her first Best New Actress award for her terrific performance in her debut film ‘Obsessed’.
51st Daejong Film Awards (2104) – Lim received the Best New Actress award for ‘Obsessed’ on November 21, 2014.
51st Grand Bell Awards (2014) – This was Lim’s third Best New Comer award in a row, which she won for ‘Obsessed’.
SBS Drama Awards (2015) – Lim received the New Star Award for ‘High Society’ on December 31, 2015.
MBC Drama Awards (2016) – Once again Lim was awarded with the Excellent Actress of the year on December 30, 2016 for her performance in the drama ‘Blow Breeze.
Personal Life
Lim was once rumoured to be dating her ‘High Society’ co-actor Park Hyung Sik. The rumour was completely based on the fact that their on-screen chemistry created magic on screen.
The director of Lim’s debut film ‘Obsessed’ is said to be in love with her right from their first meeting.
In an interview, Lim stated about her preference for younger men over older men for dating.
