Her father set up the business back in 1920s, and later joined his brother to start a completely independent company. In a short time, the 'Shevell brothers' were found guilty under several cases of fraudulence. The company was declared bankrupt. Nancy’s uncle, unable to cope with the stress, committed suicide. It was her father who then bought the trucking company 'New England Motor Freight,' which is now one of the subsidiaries of the 'Shevell Group Of Companies.' However, Nancy's father was once again taken into custody under charges of fraudulence. All these events never demotivated Nancy though. With all her determination to make the company flourish, she joined the business. Within three years of joining, she became the 'Vice-president' of the 'Shevell Group of Companies.'
