Childhood & Early Life

Jessica Gadsden was born on November 29, 1981, in the US state of South Carolina. Little else is known about her family and upbringing. She and Charlamagne met when they were both high-school students, and a relationship soon started to develop between the two.

Education & Career

Education has always been important to Gadsden. She enrolled at the University of South Carolina-Columbia, from where she received her Bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication. She also graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Bergen Community College in 2013. She also has an MBA degree from Webster University in Missouri.

Exercising, healthy lifestyle, and fitness have also been quintessential parts of her life. For several years, she has been affiliated with the fitness industry. She has held jobs at a number of athletic clubs and gyms, including New York Blood Services, East Shore Athletic Club, and Core Fire Pilates. Later, she set up her own gym and began to work as a personal trainer and instructor. She has also begun providing training on weight lifting, bodybuilding, and gymnastics.

Gadsden previously had an Instagram account, but she has now deleted it.

Family & Personal Life

After meeting each other in high school, Jessica Gadsden and Charlamagne began a relationship that has lasted for the better part of their lives. Also a South Carolina native, Charlamagne was raised in Moncks Corner, a town in and the county seat of Berkeley County. Born on June 29, 1978, he is about three and a half years older than Gadsden. He had a turbulent childhood. As a teenager, he became a drug dealer and was apprehended twice for possessing marijuana and cocaine with intent to distribute. His third arrest involved witnessing a shooting from the back seat of a car. This time, his father refused to bail him out. After spending 41 days in prison, he reached out to his mother, who finally paid the bail money.

Charlamagne decided to turn his life around after being released. He started attending night school and was hired as a radio intern. In the ensuing years, he gradually established himself as a prominent radio personality and currently serves as the co-host of WWPR-FM’s ‘The Breakfast Club’ with DJ Envy and Angela Yee. He is also active on television as the narrator of the BET Show, ‘Inside the Label’. Charlamagne has authored two books, ‘Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It’ (2017) and ‘Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me’ (2018).

Jessica Gadsden and Charlamagne have experienced their share of struggles in the decades they have been together. In an interview, Charlamagne revealed that both he and Gadsden had affairs with other people before they got married. However, since then, they have remained faithful to one another. The couple tied the knot on September 6, 2014. They have two daughters together. As Gadsden and her husband have decided to keep them out of the spotlight, not much is known about either of them.

Rape Allegations

In 2018, Charlamagne confessed that his first sexual encounter with Gadsden could be considered rape. They apparently had been dating for a year but had not yet been sexually intimate. On one Saturday night, they were spending time together at his mother’s house, and she became highly intoxicated. He subsequently initiated the encounter, and she apparently responded in kind. However, he has since come to realise that she was in no condition to give her consent. When he asked her if he had raped that time, she reportedly said, “I mean in hindsight, yeah.”

Later, Gadsden offered a different opinion on the matter. She stated that the conversation she and Charlamagne were having at the time involved rape culture and the fact that he felt that it was alright to have sex with her despite her intoxication. According to her, this is part of rape culture and not rape. She also told him that he should not have used the word “rape”, as it also made her hesitant to answer him. Furthermore, she added that she had been “very coherent” when it had happened.
