In 1995, Jeff Kinney left Maryland for Massachusetts with the aim of being a cartoonist. After some time he realized that he won’t be able to achieve his initial goal. Fortunately, he had an amazing idea in his back pocket. He started working on his first book titled ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ and over a course of eight years he completed it.

The book, which was initially released by Funbrain.com, became a huge hit online with over 80 million visits. Almost every American kid wanted to read this book! Soon after this, a publishing company decided to publish Kinney's first ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ book. This gave the author the ultimate motivation to continue writing the series. And in no time, Kinney came up with the whole series of ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ literature that included books which were as fun and interesting as the first one.

Till date, the American author has got 14 books published in the ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ book series. Following the success of his books, Kinney became a designer of kids’ online games. He created the children-friendly website titled ‘Poptropica’, where the Diary of a Wimpy Kid characters and related affairs are featured in the Poptropica universe. In May 2015, the American author, along with his wife, opened a bookstore and cafe under the name ‘An Unlikely Story’.

Personal Life

Jeff Kinney was born as Jeffrey Patrick Kinney on February 19, 1971 in Fort Washington, Maryland, USA. He has a younger brother as well as an older sister and older brother. He studied at the Bishop McNamara High School and later on attended the University of Maryland, College Park.

Coming to the author’s love life, he has been married to Julie since December 14, 2003. As of now, the couple has two sons: Will and Grant.
