David Costabile is an American actor who has gained prominence for his performances on TV and in movies. With a career spanning more than two decades, the journey hasn’t always been easy for the veteran actor. Starting with auditions in dingy places to being cast in big-budget TV dramas, he has done it all. He found fame much later in his career. Like many other actors, he did start his career on stage and by auditioning for roles. However, his first major break only came after years of appearing in small roles. Some of his best-known TV roles have been in series like, ‘Suits’, ‘Flight of the Conchords’, ‘The Blacklist’, and ‘Murphy Brown’. He is particularly famous for his outstanding portrayals of Gale Boetticher in ‘Breaking Bad’ and Mike “Wags” Wagner in ‘Billions’. Similarly, some of David Costabile’s top-rated movies are ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’, ‘Lincoln’, ‘13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi’, and ‘The Post’. He has had an equally impressive career on stage as well. Some of his critically acclaimed performances have been on Broadway. Childhood & Early Life
David Michael Costabile was born on January 9, 1967, in Washington D.C., the USA. He was born to parents of Italian and Irish heritage. His father is Salvatore Costabile and his mother is Mary Costabile.
He graduated from the Catholic all-boys high school, Gonzaga College High School’ in 1985. He then traveled to New York and started attending ‘New York University’s’ MFA program in acting. He graduated in 1998 and later in his life became a Professor at ‘NYU’. He still holds the position parallel to his acting career.

Career
After graduating from ‘NYU’, David Costabile started auditioning for roles. Some of his earliest performances were on stage. He was first noticed in an Off-Broadway production of ‘Troilus and Cressida’ in 1995. This led to his first Broadway appearance as Kuroko in ‘The Tempest’ (November 1, 1995 - December 31, 1995).
In 1996, he again starred in an Off-Broadway production of ‘Henry V’ before making his Broadway return in ‘Titanic’ (April 23, 1997 - March 21, 1999). In 1997, he also made his TV debut in the series ‘Dellaventura’.
In 1998, David Costabile made his movie debut in a small role in ‘The Siege’. He followed that up with small roles in ‘Cradle Will Rock’ (1999) and ‘Isn’t She Great’ (2000).
In 2000, Costabile co-starred in one of the highest-grossing movies of his career, ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’. Made on a budget of US $123 million it made more than US $345 million.
In the next few years, he appeared in TV series like ‘Will & Grace’ (2001), ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’ (2003), etc. He also co-starred in movies like ‘Stolen Summer’ (2002) and ‘Prime’ (2005), etc.
Although not a leading man, David Costabile had become a familiar face both on TV and movies. He was also simultaneously delivering critically acclaimed performances on stage. He was seen in Off-Broadway productions like ‘Two Gentlemen of Verona’ and ‘Mr. Marmalade’ in 2005.
He also returned to Broadway with ‘Caroline, Or Change’ (May 2, 2004 - August 29, 2004) and the revival of ‘Translations’ (January 25, 2007 - March 11, 2007). David Costabile then landed his breakthrough role of Doug in the series ‘Flight of the Conchords’ (2007 – 2009).
Following that, he was seen in recurring roles of the “Bearded Man” and Detective Rick Messer in the TV series ‘Damages’ (2007 – 2010). He also gained praise for his performance as Thomas Klebanow in the series ‘The Wire’ (2008).
In the next few years, he appeared in a handful of movies. None of them made a huge mark at the box office. These included ‘Notorious’ (2009) and ‘The Bounty Hunter’ (2010). However, he had better success on TV with roles in ‘Royal Pains’ and ‘House, M.D.’ in 2011. His most notable role during the period came as Gale Boetticher in the ‘Emmy’ winning ‘Breaking Bad’ (2010 – 2011).
David Costabile portrayed Daniel Hardman in the legal drama series ‘Suits’ (2012 – 2019). In 2012, he also co-starred in ‘Lincoln’. In 2013, he was universally praised for his performances in the TV series ‘Low Winter Sun’ and ‘Ripper Street’.
Some of his other notable appearances have been in series like ‘Dig’ (2015) and ‘Billions’ (2016 – present). ‘13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi’ (2016), ‘The Post’ (2017), and ‘The Dirt’ (2019), have been his more successful movies.
Major Works
David Costabile gained international fame for his outing as Mike “Wags” Wagner in the TV series ‘Billions’ (2016 – present). His character, the COO of Axe Capital, in the series, is a drug & sex addict and constantly snorts cocaine to focus on work. It was one of the most challenging roles of his career.
He played Republican politician James Ashley in ‘Lincoln’ (2012). The movie earned twelve ‘Academy Award’ nominations and made more than US $275 million against a budget of US $65 million.

David Costabile and actress Eliza Baldi have been married since June 25, 2012. The couple has two children, Lucy Rae Costabile (born July 2015) and Julia Grace Costabile (born March 2017).
