Chae Jung-an is a famous South Korean actress and singer who made it big with her award winning debut album ‘Cruel’. She did her degree in Theatre and Film from Dongguk University to fulfil her dream of becoming an actress. She was first noticed when she won the Johnson & Johnson’s Clean Face Contest while she was in college. She has appeared in a number of television serials including the comedy ‘Queen of Reversals’ and drama ‘Yong-Pal’ for which she was awarded the PD Award at the 29th MBC Drama Awards and Best Supporting Actress at the 4th APAN Star Awards respectively. Her other popular television serials are ‘Three Guys and Three Girls’, ‘Snowflakes’, ‘Over the Green Fields’ and ‘Cain and Able’. Her film roles include main characters in ‘Hello Schoolgirl’, ‘Dad for Rent’ and ‘Two Rooms, Two Nights’. With her growing celebrity status, she has also appeared as a guest on the variety show ‘Knowing Bros’ on JTBC network. Chae was married to a marketing company board member but got divorced after a short spell. However, unlike many South Korean actresses, she made her post divorce comeback with a lead role in the serial ‘Coffee Prince’.

Childhood & Early Life
Chae Jung-an was born Jang Jung-an on September 9, 1977 in Busan, South Korea. As a child she was fond of music and wanted to become an actress. During her school days, she was often seen on the stage with her classmates.
She completed her degree from Dongguk University in Theatre and Film. She had won the Johnson & Johnson’s Clean Face Contest as a teenager and that was a stepping stone to her career in films and television. As a result, she landed with a role in the MBC serial, ‘Three Guys and Three Girls’ in 1996 while she was still in university.

Career
Chae began her career as a singer and actress simultaneously. Her debut studio album ‘Cruel’ became an instant hit in 1998, for which she was awarded the New Artist Award at the 10th Seoul Music Awards. She appeared in the television serials ‘Panther of Kilimanjaro’, ‘Crush’ and ‘Paper Crane’ in the same year. Her movie ‘The Happenings’ also released around the same time and hit the box office with a bang.
It did not take long for Chae to make her mark in South Korean show business and get recognised as a talented actress with great potential. In 2001, she played the lead role in the television serial ‘Mi-na’ which was aired on KBS2. She exhibited her acting and singing skills in the role of an incapacitated singer. Her second album ‘Letter’, closely followed by ‘Goddess...Her Fate’ also released around the same time.
She went on to play a supporting role in a number of serials like ‘Over the Green Fields’, ‘Emperor of the Sea’ and ‘Cane and Abel’ till she made an award winning performance in the romantic comedy television serial ‘Queen of Reversals’ in 2010. Her movie career ran parallel with a lead role in the movie ‘Hello Schoolgirl’, where she appeared as an old woman in a love triangle involving a young girl and a boy.
She played one of the main characters in the serials ‘The Prime Minister and I’, ‘When a Man Falls in Love’ and ‘Drama Special – Your Noir’ which were aired on KBS2 and MBC networks in 2013. Her performance gained positive reviews from critiques and fans making her a household name.
Her celebrity status peaked with her superb award winning performance in the drama serial ‘Yong-Pal’ that was aired during prime time on SBS network in 2014. Her movie ‘Dad for Rent’ also released in the same year.
She has appeared in serials ‘Entertainer’ and ‘Man To Man’, coupled with a role in the movie ‘Two Rooms, Two Nights’. She made her first guest appearance on the variety show ‘Knowing Bros’ on JTBC network in 2017.

Chae is known to be an easy going person and is popular among her co-stars. Many of them like Shin Se Kyung have gone on record to praise her on social media for her attitude at work as well as private life.
Trivia
She is a firm believer in God and follower of the Protestant religion.
She played the lead role in the musical drama ‘Mi-na’, which featured her actually singing a number of her songs that were recorded specially for the serial.
She performs under the management of the South Korean entertainment company ‘Wellmade STRAM’ that looks after her acting as well as singing engagements.
