Brandon Charles Boyd is an American singer, songwriter, author, and visual artist. He is most popular as the lead vocalist of the American rock band ‘Incubus.’ With the encouragement of his parents, Boyd was able to nurture his artistic side since childhood. As a visual artist, Boyd designed some of the early concert flyers for ‘Incubus.’ He is also known for introducing some interesting instruments, such as the didgeridoo and the djembe, to his songs. After the limited success of the band’s initial albums ‘Enjoy Incubus’ and ‘S.C.I.E.N.C.E,’ Boyd was able to lead his band through later commercial successes such as ‘Make Yourself,’ ‘Morning View,’ ‘A Crow Left of the Murder,’ and ‘Monuments and Melodies.’ Boyd is the author of two books that mostly consist of his experiences as an artist. More recently, Boyd has begun focusing on fine arts, mainly painting. He is the founder of a non-profit organization named ‘The Make Yourself Foundation,’ which aims at raising money for various philanthropic causes. Boyd’s androgynous beauty and warm demeanor sets him apart from other testosterone-drunk rock artists.

Childhood & Early Life
Brandon Charles Boyd was born on February 15, 1976, in Van Nuys, California, US. His parents, Priscilla Dolly Wiseman and Charles Boyd, both belong to the entertainment industry.
In 1994, Boyd graduated from ‘Calabasas High School.’ He then attended ‘Moorpark College’ before starting his musical journey.
Boyd designed the initial concert flyers of the band ‘Incubus.’ However, since they were copied from a sex-education book, audiences were confused about their meanings. Thus, Boyd returned to some of his own original artwork.

Career with Incubus
In 1995, Boyd led ‘Incubus’ toward their first musical release, ‘Fungus Amongus.’ The album was released under the label ‘Epic/Immortal Records.’ It had limited success.
In 1997, ‘Incubus’ released two albums: ‘Enjoy Incubus’ and ‘S.C.I.E.N.C.E.’ Both of them went largely unnoticed in the mainstream music scene.
In 1999, ‘Incubus’ had its first commercial success, with the album ‘Make Yourself.’ The album produced three charting singles, ‘Pardon Me,’ ‘Stellar,’ and ‘Drive,’ all of which climbed among the top three positions on the ‘Billboard’ chart.
In 2001, ‘Incubus’ released its next commercial breakthrough album, ‘Morning View.’ Popular singles from the album include ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘Nice to Know You.’
In 2004, the band continued its success streak, with the release of the album ‘A Crow Left of the Murder.’ It earned the band a nomination for the ‘Best Hard Rock Performance’ at the 2005 ‘Grammy Awards.’
In 2006, ‘Incubus’ released ‘Light Grenades.’ In its first week, the album topped the ‘Billboard 200,’ selling 165,000 copies in the US alone.
In 2009, Boyd led his band to a major success, with the album ‘Monuments and Melodies.’ It was released as a double-disc set, featuring assorted songs from their previous albums. Boyd himself drew the album art.
In 2011, ‘Incubus’ released their seventh studio album, ‘If Not Now, When?’ It was named after the novel of the same name by Primo Levi. The album represented the band’s longest gap between studio albums at the time.
In 2015, the band released a four-track album called ‘Trust Fall (Side A).’ The writing and production of the band had already begun in 2014, when the band fronted by Boyd performed the titular single on ‘KROQ.’

In 2017, ‘Incubus’ released its eighth studio album, ‘8,’ through ‘Island Records.’ The album’s first single, ‘Nimble Bastard,’ peaked at number 4 on the ‘Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs’ chart.
Solo Career
In 2010, Boyd released his debut solo album, ‘The Wild Trapeze.’ The album peaked at number 33 on the ‘Billboard 200,’ selling 11,109 copies.
In 2013, Boyd collaborated with the band ‘Sons of the Sea.’ He toured throughout 2013 and 2014. They released two albums, ‘Compass’ and ‘Songs of the Sea.’ A song from ‘Songs of the Sea,’ titled ‘Stem to the Rose,’ was used in the documentary ‘Becoming Bulletproof.’
Writing & Fine Art Career
In 2003, Boyd published his first book, ‘White Fluffy Clouds,’ consisting of his artwork, photography, and song lyrics. It was published by ‘Endophasia Publications.’
In 2007, Boyd published his second book, ‘From the Murks of the Sultry Abyss.’ It was also published by ‘Endophasia Publications.’
In 2013, Boyd published his third book, ‘So the Echo,’ which was inspired by this experiences as the frontman of ‘Incubus.’ The book revealed many new sketches and watercolor works, along with various experimental techniques, personal photos, and journal entries.
