Austin Chick is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is known for making the 2002 romantic drama film ‘XX/XY’ and the 2008 drama movie ‘August,’ which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. As a writer, he has contributed to the 2012 thriller horror ‘Girls Against Boys’. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Chick grew up in New Hampshire. In the late 1980s, he studied at the boarding school High Mowing School and later went on to specialize in literature and psychology from Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers. He then earned a degree in cinematography from New York’s SUNY Purchase Film School in 1998. Despite not being extremely prolific, Chick is considered one of the most talented directors and writers in the industry. Known to be a perfectionist, he is careful about every single detail in his works. Chick was previously married to actress Morena Baccarin and is the father of one son.

Career
Austin Chick’s first major film as a writer and director was ‘XX/XY’. Released in 2002, the romantic drama movie examines the relationship between three college students during their college days as well as in later life. The independent production starring Kathleen Robertson, Mark Ruffalo and Maya Stange premiered at Sundance Film Festival where it earned a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize.
In 2007, Chick produced the crime drama movie ‘Before the Devil Knows You're Dead’. Featuring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke, it is a story of two brothers who plan to loot their parents' jewelry shop so as to get rich quick, eventually inviting tragic consequences. The film was selected as one of the ten most influential movies made in America by the American Film Institute.
Chick then produced and directed the movie ‘August,’ which was released by ContentFilm International in 2008. Starring Josh Hartnett, Naomie Harris, Adam Scott, David Bowie and Rip Torn, the plot centered on two brothers, Tom and Joshua Sterling, with the latter involved in a sincere effort to save his internet organization on the stock market right before the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The film premiered at various film festivals including the Sundance Film Festival, Brooklyn International Film Festival and Seattle International Film Festival.
In 2012, Chick wrote and directed ‘Girls against Boys,’ a thriller horror starring Nicole LaLiberte and Danielle Panabaker. Released by Anchor Bay Entertainment, the flick garnered negative reviews from the critics.
