Anya Chalotra is an English actor, best known for playing ‘Jennifer Ashman’ in the British drama series ‘Wanderlust.’ Chalotra made headlines in 2018 when she was cast as ‘Yennefer’ in the upcoming ‘Netflix’ fantasy drama ‘The Witcher.’ It is based on a book series that was later turned into a popular video-game series. However, many fans were not happy with the makers’ decision of casting Chalotra as ‘Yennefer.’ Chalotra is also famous for portraying ‘Lily Marbury’ in the thriller series ‘The ABC Murders,’ based on Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name.

  • Anya Chalotra was born in 1996, in Wolverhampton, England. She was raised in Lower Penn, a village in South Staffordshire. Both her parents are from India. She attended ‘St. Dominic's Grammar School’ in Brewood, Staffordshire, England. She also attended the ‘Guildhall School of Music and Drama’ in London. She performed on stage in many of her school’s theatrical productions. After graduating high school, Chalotra learned the nuances of acting at the prestigious ‘London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art’ (LAMDA).

  • Chalotra started her acting career by performing in theaters across London. Some of the plays she was part of were ‘Notoriously Abused,’ ‘Great Expectations,’ ‘The Crucible,’ ‘Balm in Gilead,’ ‘The Merchant of Venice,’ and ‘The Same Deep Water as Me.’ Critics praised her performance in the play 'The Village.’ The play featured Chalotra as a strong-willed Indian teenager, inspiring a group of women to stand up against a cruel and tyrannical policeman. Popular British daily newspaper ‘The Guardian’ described her performance as “compelling.” Chalotra made her TV debut as ‘Jennifer Ashman’ in ‘Wanderlust.’ The first episode of the series was aired on ‘BBC One’ on September 4, 2018. ‘Wanderlust’ is also streamed outside the UK by ‘Netflix.’
  • Chalotra was cast in the miniseries ‘The ABC Murders.’ The ‘BBC One’ series directed by Alex Gabassi featured Chalotra as ‘Lily Marbury.’ She received her big breakthrough when she was offered the role of ‘Yennefer’ in the upcoming ‘Netflix’ fantasy drama ‘The Witcher.’ The series is based on a book series by famous Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The book series was popularized in 2007, when video-game developers released an action game based on the series. Because of the popularity of the video game, fans welcomed the idea of turning ‘The Witcher’ into a TV series. However, fans were disappointed when Chalotra was selected to play ‘Yennefer.’ According to fans, Chalotra was too young to play the character and the age difference between her and her co-star Henry Cavill was inappropriate. However, the decision of casting Chalotra was supported by the creator of the series, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. Lauren said that the makers had selected the most appropriate actors to play their respective roles.
