John Newton was an English Anglican cleric. As a young man, he was forcefully recruited into the navy and worked on slave ships in the slave trade for several years. He later converted to Christianity, following which he denounced slavery and became an abolitionist. He was then ordained as a Church of England cleric. 

One of the two women founder members of London’s Royal Academy, Angelica Kauffman was born to a painter father in Switzerland and was quite a prodigy, who mastered several languages and the arts of music and painting quite quickly. The history painter is best remembered for her landscapes and portraits.

Maria Theresa of Naples and Sicily lost 8 of her 16 siblings to smallpox in infancy. The eldest child of King Ferdinand IV & III of Naples and Sicily, Maria was also the niece of the infamous French queen Marie Antoinette. A patron of Viennese music, she loved masquerades and balls.

Magtymguly Pyragy was a Turkmen spiritual leader, philosophical poet, and Sufi. He was a wide traveler who had traveled through the territories of present-day Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan. He worked as a silversmith to make a living and wrote poetry in his leisure time. He is considered to be the most famous figure in Turkmen literary history. 

Jérôme Lalande was a French astronomer, freemason, and writer. His parents wanted him to study law, but he became a disciple of astronomer Joseph-Nicholas Delisle instead. He went on to have a brilliant career as an astronomer and was awarded the Lalande Prize by the French Academy of Sciences. His daughter Marie-Jeanne de Lalande also became an astronomer. 

One of the court poets of the Czartoryski family, Franciszek Dionizy Kniaźnin wrote everything from lyric and love poems to plays and religious verses. He was also inspired by Belarusian folklore. One of this best-known works remains the poem Bugle Call to the Third of May.
