Unkei was a Japanese sculptor of the Kei school. His early works were fairly traditional. A devout Buddhist, he specialized in statues of the Buddha and other Buddhist figures. He also did commissions for high-ranking samurai and administrators of the shogunate. Art historians consider him the "most distinguished member" of the Kei school.
