Tim Daly is an accomplished actor, director, and producer; with a huge body of work in films, television, and theatre. Born to artiste parents, he initially considered becoming a professional: a sportsperson, musician, lawyer or doctor; however, his family background as well as his innate natural talent ensured his entry into the theatre at an early age. In his interviews, Tim has often recalled that his family constantly insisted on improvising his lines and scenes; even as a third grader when he acted in a school play. Over the years, he has donned multiple hats in show business. Apart from acting, he has also produced several movies, TV series and has ventured into direction. In spite of his tremendous success in movies and on television, Daly still has great reverence for the theatre. In 2018, he teamed up with his sister Tyne for the play ‘Downstairs’. This play hit a chord with viewers and received rave reviews from several critics.

Childhood & Early Life
James Timothy Daly was born to James Daly and Mary Hope Daly on March 1, 1956, at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, New York City. His father, a native of Wisconsin, was a theatre personality who went on to act in several movies as well as television shows. His mother was a theatre actress.
Tim has three elder sisters. His sister Tyne Daly is an actress, and has won several Emmy awards for her work on television. He has two other siblings: Pegeen Michael a brother and Mary Glynn, a sister, who is married to television composer Mark Snow.
As a child, he went to the Putney School in Vermont. In 1979, he graduated from Bennington College in Vermont, with a degree in Art and Theatre.

Career
Tim Daly debuted on stage at the young age of seven when he acted with his sisters and parents in a play titled ‘Jenny Kissed Me’. After a few years (10 years old), he made his first television appearance where he acted, along with his father, in an adaptation of a Norwegian play titled ‘An Enemy of the People‘ written by Henrik Ibsen.
His professional acting career, as an adult, began in 1978, at age of 22 years. He acted in the theatrical adaptation of Peter Shaffer’s play titled Equus. In 1982 he got his first lead role in the movie ‘Diner’ along with actors Mikey Rourke and Kevin Bacon.
Subsequently, he starred in several movies including ‘Made in Heaven’, ‘Spellbinder’, ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde’, ‘The Associate’, ‘Seven Girlfriends’, ‘Basic’. His recent movie was the 2016 thriller titled ‘Submerged’.
Along with acting in movies, Tim has actively been involved in several theatricals, Broadway productions and television series. In 1987 he won the Theatre World Award for his performance in the Broadway production titled ‘Coastal Disturbances’.
He also starred as one of the leads in a TV series ‘Wing’ which aired on NBC from 1990-97. In the mini-series, ‘From the Earth to the Moon’, he reprised the role of astronaut Jim Lovell played by Tom Hanks in the movie ‘Apollo 13‘. This HBO series was produced by Tom Hanks. He has acted in one or more episodes in many popular and award winning TV shows including Monk, Private Practice, The Sopranos, and The Mindy Project. Currently, he is playing the role of Henry McCord in ‘Madam Secretary’.
In 1997 Daly set up his own production house, Daly-Harris Productions, along with Todd Harris. Together, they have produced several movies including ‘Execution of Justice’, ‘Tick Tock’, ‘Edge of America’, ‘Bereft’, and ‘PoliWood‘.
He is also a voice actor and has given voice over for Superman in the movie ‘Superman: The Animated Series’. He has also given voice overs in ‘The Batman/Superman Movie’, ‘My Neighbor Totoro’, and ‘Justice League’.
Apart from acting assignments, Tim Daly is also at the helm of Red House Entertainment. The house has produced award-winning movies including ‘Edge of America’ and ‘Bereft’—the movie which marked Daly’s directorial debut.
He has also set up Wandering Productions, a production house that undertakes various film television and theatre assignments.
Major Works
‘The Fugitive’: This television series depicts the story of a physician who is wrongfully convicted of his wife’s murder. Daly plays the title role of Dr. Richard Kimble.
‘The Edge of America‘ (2003): This movie, produced by Tim, tells the story of a black teacher who is made to coach a girls’ basketball team. He makes his students realize the importance of passion, dedication, and discipline. The movie was critically acclaimed.
Family & Personal Life
In 1982, Daly married actress Amy Nostrand. After 28 years of marriage,they divorced in the year 2010. They have two children: a son Sam Daly, an actor, and a daughter Emelyn.
He is dating his co-star, Tea Leoni, from December 2014
Humanitarian Works
Daly has been involved with several social causes and is a member of The Creative Coalition(TCC), a not for profit group formed by members of the American film industry.
As a part of the TCC, he has also joined hands with National Task Force on Children's Safety. The task force’s primary objective is to create awareness and dialogues on issues related to children safety and media literacy.
Trivia
Tim climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in the year 2012.
