Thom Bierdz is an American actor who is best recognized for appearing as Phillip Chancellor III in the CBS daytime soap opera ‘The Young and the Restless.’ He appeared regularly on the show from 1986 to 1989, and garnered a huge fan base through his brilliant performance. He is of Polish and Italian ancestry. Openly gay, the actor has suffered a number of tragedies but has persevered bravely through each of them. Years ago, his paranoid schizophrenic brother murdered their mother with a baseball bat. A few years hence, another brother, in the throes of deep depression, committed suicide. Although deeply shaken by these family tragedies, Bierdz has chosen to be courageous and has shared the accounts of his life’s darkest times in his memoir “Forgiving Troy.” Currently, he devotes most of his time to painting and to non-profit organizations. He is closely associated with “Out for Work,” an organization which works for the upliftment of LGBT students in the areas of personal development and education. As a painter, he has earned the title of the Best Emerging Artist of Los Angeles by ‘Out Magazine.’

Career
From 1986 to 1989, Thom Bierdz played the regular role of Phillip Chancellor in the series ‘The Young and the Restless,’ and also made a few guest appearances later. Created by Lee Phillip Bell and William J. Bell, the show has earned nine Daytime Emmy Awards since its debut. It is also the highest-rated daytime drama series on American television as for now.
Bierdz has also appeared in a recurring role in Fox’s primetime opera ‘Melrose Place’. His other television credits include ‘Murder, She Wrote’, ‘Matlock’, ‘Highway to Heaven’, ‘Win, Lose or Draw’, ‘Robin's Hoods’ and ‘The New Hollywood Squares’.
During 2012 and 2013, the actor portrayed the character of Bobby Burton in ‘Old Dogs New Tricks’, a comedy-drama web series about four middle-aged gay men residing in the "youth-obsessed West Hollywood". Starring Leon Acord, David Pevsner, Curt Bonnem and Jeffrey Patrick Olson, the series premiered on YouTube in 2012. It was later released on DVD and then made available on Hulu, LLC in December 2013.

Thom Bierdz was born on March 25, 1962 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA. In July 1989, his youngest brother Troy beat their mother to death by hitting her with a sports bat and is presently serving time in jail. In May 2000, his brother Craig, who was suffering from severe depression, committed suicide. Bierdz also has one sister.
Bierdz, who is an extraordinary painter, received the title of the Best Emerging Artist of Los Angeles by ‘Out Magazine’ in 2005. He also won the Key to the Light Award at the 51st Annual Thalians Event.
His self-published memoir titled ‘Forgiving Troy,’ in which he has detailed the dark times of his life, has garnered numerous prizes. In 2007, the artiste earned the "Best Indie Autobiography" from USA Book News for his memoir.
Bierdz is also associated with several charities including “Out for Work”. In 2009, The Human Rights Campaign presented him with the Visibility Award for his frequent contributions to charitable organizations through his acting, visual art and writing.
Bierdz is openly gay. In 2009, he made a record for being the first openly gay actor to be cast in a daytime soap opera in a contract role.
