Shefali was born on December 15, 1980, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, to Sunita and Satish Jariwala. She has a sister named Shivani.

Shefali got an offer of appearing in a music video while she was studying engineering. The video was for the hit 2002 video song 'Kaanta Laga - Baby Doll' from the album 'Harry's Bonfire Party: The Best of Harry Anand,' which was a remix version of an old song from the film 'Samadhi,' originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar.

As soon as the video was released on TV, Shefali became an overnight star. She soon came to be known as the “thong girl” and the ''Kaanta Laga Girl.'' Despite the success of the video, she also got bashed for making raunchy dance moves and ruining the essence of the original song.

In 2008, she appeared in the 'Sony TV' dance reality contest 'Boogie Woogie.'

After 'Kaanta Laga,' Shefali appeared in a few other music albums, too, such as 'Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar Remix' ('Sweet Honey Mix'), 'Kaanta Laga' ('DJ Doll and The Return of The Kaanta Mix Vol.2'), and 'Maal Bhari Aahe - DJ Hot Remix' ('Prem Kaanta'). However, none of them could bring her the success she had earned from her debut video. She subsequently made a brief appearance in the 2004 movie 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi,' in which she was shown dancing to 'Kaanta Laga.'

In 2006, she appeared in the music video for 'Pyar Humaayn Kis Mod Pe Le Aaya' by 'Meet Bros' ('Meet Bros Reloaded'). Shefali was also cast as 'Pankaja' in the 2011 Kannada drama feature 'Hudugaru.' The film featured her in the song 'Naa Board Irada Bus Pankaja.'

Shefali stepped into the world of TV seriously in 2012, through the 'Star Plus' dance reality show 'Nach Baliye 5,' in which she participated with her current husband, Parag Tyagi. The two also appeared in the seventh season of the show, in 2015.

Following this, she starred in her first web series, 'Baby Come Naa' by 'AltBalaji.' It featured her as ‘Sarah,’ opposite Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade.

After a long gap, Shefali returned on screen with the thirteenth season of the 'Colors TV' reality show 'Bigg Boss,' in 2019. She was a wildcard entry on day 36 but got evicted on the 119th day. While she was on the show, the audience loved her presence and game strategy.

She supported her friends in the ''house'' and was hence one of the most popular and strongest contestants on the show. In her first week in the ''house,'' she became the captain.

That year, she made her most recent film appearance, in the 'AltBalaji' original comedy 'Booo: Sabki Phategi,' starring Mallika Sherawat and Tusshar Kapoor.

Shefali was initially married to musician Harmeet, who was one of the singers from the duo 'Meet Bros.' They got married in 2004 but had an ugly divorce in 2009. She pressed some serious charges against Harmeet.

According to Harmeet, all the charges pressed against him were later proved fake. The two are now on good terms and exchange pleasantries when they bump into each other.

She is now married to actor Parag Tyagi. They had met through common friends. Since Shefali was already heartbroken due to her messy first marriage, she took a while to start a friendship with Parag. She eventually got drawn toward his caring nature and started dating him. Their families, too, now bond well with each other. Parag and Shefali's father are quite close.

Shefali and Parag had initially decided to get married in 2012. They were preparing for a lavish beach wedding and had booked the venue, too. Unfortunately, Parag's father suffered a heart attack that year, and the wedding plans got postponed. They finally had a court marriage on August 12, 2014.

Since both of her parents were working at the 'State Bank of India,' Shefali was raised by her grandparents. She adorably calls her grandmother “Ba” and her grandfather “Bappa.”

When the news of her entry into the 'Bigg Boss' ''house'' broke out, her fans were excited to see her come face to face with her ex-boyfriend, actor Sidharth Shukla, whom she had dated before marrying Harmeet. When the media asked Harmeet how he felt about Shefali's entry to the ''house,'' he seemed confident and said that he always knew she would appear on the show someday. He added that her interesting personality made her an appropriate contestant for a show such as 'Bigg Boss.

Shefali makes amazing sangrias and has a love for interiors. She, in fact, had received an offer from one of the best interior designing colleges in Florence, Italy. However, she did not accept the offer.
