Who is Sanni?

Sanni Mari Elina Kurkisuo, popularly known as Sanni, is a Finnish singer, songwriter as well as an actor. She, at the age of just eight, won the prestigious Napero-Finlandia competition. Over 3,000 fairy tales had been sent in by different participants but it was her story ‘Bird, who wanted to sing’ which won the title. Growing up in a family where music was very important, she was influenced by her mother’s singing background. She started taking an interest in music at as early as five years of age. At the age of twenty, she was launched by ‘Warner Music Finland’, who released her debut studio album titled ‘Sotke Mut’ (which translates to ‘Mess me up’ in English). It went on to be certified platinum, which speaks a lot about her talent. In addition, Sanni has delivered several singles that have featured in the top charts over the years, including ‘Prinsessoja ja astronautteja’, ‘2080-luvulla’, and ‘Että mitähän vittua’. Also an occasional actress, Sanni appeared in the 2012 Finnish film ‘Miss Farkku-Suomi’, playing a very important role.
Career
Sanni was influenced by her mother’s musical background, as she was also a singer associated with a Finnish music band. She learned to play musical instruments like the guitar when she was quite young. On September 20, 2013, Warner music Finland launched Sanni and released her debut studio album ‘Sotke mut’ which translates to ‘Mess Me Up’ in English. The album had twelve singles, including ‘Prinsessoja ja astronautteja’, and ‘Jos mä oon oikee’ and was produced under Hank Solo’s guidance. Both the singles reached as high as number three on the Official Finnish Charts. The album was certified platinum by Musiikkituottajat, the umbrella organization of recording producers active in Finland. It sold over 20,000 copies.
Her second studio album ‘Lelu’, which translates to ‘Toy’ in English, was released on April 24, 2015, again by Warner Music Finland. Like the previous studio album, it too was produced under the guidance of Hank Solo. The album had ten singles, all written by Sanni herself. The track ‘2080-luvulla’ peaked at #1 on the Finnish airplay and downloads charts as well as holds the record of being at the top for the most number of weeks (eleven weeks).
A year later, her third studio album ‘Sanni’ was released in 2016. The album had singles like ‘Kelpaat kelle vaan’, ‘Tahdon rakastella sinua’, and ‘Timantit on ikuisia’, peaking at number 2, 4, and 5 respectively on Finnish top charts.
Apart from her music, Sanni has also appeared in a Finnish movie named ‘Miss Farkku-Suomi’ alongside Mikko Neuvonen and Elias Gould. The film is based on the novel of the same title by Kauko Röyhkä and was directed by Matti Kinnunen. Sanni played one of the lead characters in the film and was praised by many for her work.
