Ron Eldard is an American actor known for his roles in the drama series ‘Bakersfield P.D.’ and ‘Men Behaving Badly’ in the 1990s. He is also known for playing the love interest of the nurse played by Julianna Margulies in the second season of NBC’s medical drama series ‘ER’. A former golden gloves boxer, he has also found success in feature films and on the stage. He made his movie debut with the 1989 comedy movie ‘True Love’ and then went to play roles in several other big screen projects. Born as the second youngest child of seven kids in Long Island, New York, he had a difficult childhood as his mother died when he was very young. He then lived with different relatives. At the age of 13, he moved to Queens to reside with his sister Lana and her husband. He was educated at the renowned High School for the Performing Arts in New York before beginning his career.

Career
Ron Eldard made his acting debut with Nancy Savoca’s 1989 comedy ‘True Love’. Also starring Annabella Sciorra, the movie earned the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. After this, he appeared in ‘Scent of a Woman’, a drama film that tells the story of a school student who becomes an assistant to a blind, irritable, retired army officer.
From 1993 to 1994, Eldard featured as Detective Wade Preston in the sitcom ‘Bakersfield P.D.,’ which was cancelled after just one season due to low ratings. He next joined the cast of the medical drama series ‘ER’ as paramedic Ray Shepard, the love interest of actress Julianna Margulies’ character. During this time, he also starred as John Reilly in the legal crime drama flick ‘Sleepers’ alongside Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt, Jason Patric, Robert De Niro, Minnie Driver, Dustin Hoffman and Vittorio Gassman.
From 1996 to 1997, Eldard played the role of Kevin Murphy in the television series ‘Men Behaving Badly’, a transatlantic equivalent to the British drama of the same name. After this, he had a role in the 2000 TV movie ‘Death of a Salesman’. The film garnered two nominations each at both the 52nd Primetime Emmy Awards (2000) and the 7th Screen Actors Guild Awards (2001). The actor was cast as Dodge in the American-Australian horror movie ‘Ghost Ship’ which earned $68.3 million worldwide against a budget of $20 million.
Following a role in the legal drama ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’, Eldard featured in the films ‘Super 8’ and ‘Roadie’, both of which were released in 2011. Three years later, he played Cunningham in ‘Poker Night’, a crime thriller that focuses on a rookie detective that attends an annual poker night conducted by veteran police officers where they detail how they took hold of a murder suspect. In 2018, Eldard appeared in the sci-fi thriller ‘Higher Power’.

Ron Eldard was born on February 20, 1965 in Long Island, New York, USA. He has six siblings: two brothers Roger and Raymond, and four sisters: Lana, Linda, Lisa and Laurie. His mother died while he was still a child and he went on to live with his uncle and aunt in Utah. At the age of 13, Eldard moved to his sister Lana’s home. He later graduated from New York’s High School for the Performing Arts.
From 1991 to 2003, he was in a relationship with producer/actress Julianna Margulies.
