Ralph Carter is an American actor and singer known for playing Michael Evans in CBS’ ‘Good Times’ which aired from 1974 to 1979. Before joining television, he appeared in a number of Broadway and Off-Broadway projects including ‘Raisin,’ which earned him a Drama Desk Award and a Theatre World Award along with a Tony Award nomination, and ‘Dude,’ for which he garnered a Drama Desk Award. As a singer, Carter has released a few songs like "Get it Right" and "Extra, Extra", the latter of which charted at #12. One of his recent appearances was as a guest in the TV show ‘Steve Harvey’ in 2016. The actor is currently living a secluded life away from the media glare. As for now, he resides with his second wife, River York, and their three children in New York City. Previously, Carter was married to Lisa Parks with whom he has two sons.

Career
Ralph Carter started his career on the Broadway at the age of nine when he was cast in the musical ‘The Me Nobody Knows’. He then had roles in a number of other plays including ‘Via Galactica’ and ‘Dude,’ the latter of which earned him the Drama Desk Award for Most Promising Performer. Soon, he landed his breakthrough role as Travis Younger in the Broadway production of ‘Raisin.’ The actor’s performance earned critical acclaim and eventually earned him the 1973 Drama Desk Award and the 1974 Theatre World Award along with a Tony Award nomination for supporting actor.
During the 1970s, Carter enjoyed moderate success on television with the hit programs ‘Maude,’ ‘Sanford and Son’ and ‘All in the Family.’ From 1974 to 1979, he played the spunky activist Michael Evans, the youngest sibling in the Evans family, in the hit sitcom ‘Good Times’. During this time, he recorded his debut album ‘When You're Young and in Love’. The album’s title track and another single "Extra, Extra" became hits and charted at #10 and #12, respectively. In 1985, Carter released another song called "Get it Right".
In 2005, he appeared in the musical "Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death" at the Classical Theater of Harlem Company. That year, he also featured as a commentator on the TV show ‘Character Studies’. Two years later, he was featured in the TV show ‘Soul Train’. In 2016, Carter, along with his ‘Good Times’ co-actors, appeared in the show ‘Steve Harvey’.

Ralph Carter was born on May 30, 1961, in New York City, USA. In 1982, he met his first wife Lisa Parks in a Christmas party. Parks was a sister of his best friend Larry Parks. The two married in February 1987, six months after their engagement. They had two sons, Michael and James, before they divorced. Following his separation from his first wife, the actor married River York in the year 1994. Currently, the two live in New York City with their two daughters, Jessica and Vivica, and a son named Phoenix.
