OMI is a Jamaican pop singer best known for his hit song "Cheerleader". The song was later remixed by many other singers, including German DJ Felix Jaehn. Currently signed to Ultra Music, he released his debut studio album titled ‘Me 4 U’ in 2015. Till date, the affable singer/songwriter has sung several singles both as a main and featured artist. From rapping during class breaks and writing music at the age of 14 to becoming one of the leading contemporary pop superstars, OMI has come a long way. Touched by music in his childhood, he got his early inspiration from his late father who gave him the necessary lessons and tools before departing from the world. Since then, the Jamaican artist has been exploring the field by himself, coming up with new and innovative lyrics and songs. Besides singing, he is also passionate about other aspects of making music. On a personal note, OMI was raised alongside his three siblings. He is very close to his mother and siblings and always makes it a priority to spend quality time with them.
OMI initially got signed to an independent Jamaican label called Oufah. His first recorded song was titled "Standing On All Threes" that was released with a music video. In 2008, he composed his future hit track "Cheerleader". However, this song was eventually released only in 2012. Meanwhile, he put out numerous local hits in Jamaica including "Fireworks", "Take It Easy" and "Color of My Lips”.
In 2014, the singer’s track "Cheerleader" got a second life when the president of Ultra Music, Patrick Moxey, offered to remix the song and re-launch it. German DJ Felix Jaehn was commissioned to remix it. After its release, the remix became a grand hit, topping various charts both in the USA and the UK. It made history in May 2015 when the song topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks in a row, marking the longest consecutive time period any Jamaican singer has held that position on the chart.
On August 27, 2015, OMI released his single "Hula Hoop". Two months later, he released his debut album titled ‘Me 4 U’ that included the songs "Cheerleader", "Stir It", "Hula Hoop" and "Drop In the Ocean".
