Birth

Nahla was born on March 16, 2008, in Los Angeles, California. Her parents, Halle and Gabriel, announced their separation on April 30, 2010. Halle then married Olivier Martinez in 2013, but the couple divorced in 2016. She has a half- brother named Maceo Martinez, born to Halle and Olivier.

The Custody Battle

After their separation, Gabriel and Halle had a custody battle for Nahla. The legal fight was one of the most highly publicized celebrity custody battles of all time. Halle wanted to move to France with her daughter. She was planning to move in with her then-fiancé, actor Olivier Martinez, who lived in France.

Nahla’s father, on the other hand, wanted joint custody of their daughter and thus objected to Halle's decision of moving to France with their daughter. The shift would have then created an obstacle for the joint custody arrangement. The court sustained Gabriel's objection in November 2012. However, the custody evaluator's opinion favored Halle’s decision. On November 29, 2012, the court closed the custody case after Halle agreed to an amicable custody agreement.

During the custody case proceedings, Gabriel demanded $50,000 for Nahla’s expenses and demanded that the child support amount be increased by $20,000 per month. The court ruled in his favor, and in June 2012, ordered Halle to raise the amount.

On November 22, 2012, Gabriel had a physical altercation with Halle’s then-fiancé, Olivier. The latter was injured and admitted to a Los Angeles hospital. Olivier was reportedly furious, as Gabriel had not let Halle move to France with Nahla.

Olivier filed a report against Gabriel and was also granted an emergency protective order that barred Gabriel from coming within 100 yards of him, Halle, and Nahla, until November 29, 2012.

In June 2014, Halle received a notification from the court that ordered her to pay $16,000 a month in child support. However, the amount was later reduced to $8,000 by a California court. She also received a reminder to pay $115,000, which she owed to Gabriel. Halle was also liable to pay a sum of $300,000 for Gabriel’s attorney fees

Halle and Gabriel now share an amicable relationship and often spend time with Nahla. In May 2018, they were spotted with Nahla at a carnival in Los Angeles. However, Halle and Gabriel maintained a respectable distance throughout the event. They had previously agreed to have no bitter feelings for each other for the sake of Nahla.
