Kendu Isaacs Biography

Kendu was born Martin Isaacs, on August 14, 1968, in the US. He is of mixed ethnicity. Kendu has made his career as a music producer. He was also the executive producer of the 2013 drama film 'Betty and Coretta,' which starred Kendu’s former wife, Mary J Blige. He later appeared as a guest on a February 2007 episode of the variety comedy talk show 'Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show.'

In January 2001, Kendu was appointed as a manager at the Berlin-based artist management company 'K. I. Management.' He now serves as the president of the company. From January 2008 to July 2016, Kendu worked at 'Matriarch Entertainment.'

Kendu caught the attention of the media after the news of his divorce surfaced. He was married to R&B singer and actor Mary J Blige. At a point in her life, Mary was addicted to alcohol, sex, and drugs, but she found solace in Kendu. They eventually fell in love. The two began dating in 2000 and got married on December 7, 2003, in a simple ceremony at Mary’s home. During their happy marital years, Kendu and Mary were often clicked together at events and parties. He was Mary’s manager throughout their relationship. Mary also displayed an amicable relation with Kendu’s children from his former wife. After enjoying a prosperous married life for over a decade, Kendu’s marriage to Mary took a tumultuous turn, and she filed for divorce in July 2016. She cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce.

Their marriage was disturbed after Kendu was linked to singer Starshell, who was signed under Mary’s record label, 'Matriarch Entertainment', and had previously worked as Kendu’s secretary. Mary reportedly claimed Kendu had spent over $420,000 on Starshell. She also added that he was abusive toward her. The two have been involved in public physical altercations several times. Mary had reportedly punched Kendu at her record release party at the club 'M2 Furthermore' in 2012. Kendu’s lawyer rejected all the accusations made by Mary and suggested an out-of-court settlement. However, Kendu demanded the monthly spousal support be raised from $30,000 to $100,000 per month. This hinted at the fact that Kendu was dependent on Mary’s financial assets. Kendu was accused of having married Mary only for her wealth. At the time of their marriage, he had received 10 percent of Mary’s gross income. As Mary's manager, Kendu handled all her business deals and financial transactions. Hence, he had access to all her financial details. It was reported that Kendu had even taken possession of Mary’s 'Grammy' to get her attention.

On the other hand, Kendu claimed that Mary was a lesbian and that she was in a relationship with Starshell. He further added that because of Mary, he was jobless. He also demanded a raise in the spousal support. Kendu revealed that the divorce had had a hard impact on his physical and mental health, ultimately landing him in the hospital.

Mary is Kendu’s second wife. He was earlier married to Maurine, whom he had divorced in 1999, after 8 years of blissful marriage. The couple has two children, Jordan and Nas. Kendu’s daughter, Briana Latrise, is an actor who is famous for the TV show 'Growing up Hip Hop.' She was born out of a teenage relationship. However, some sources suggest that Briana’s mother is none other than Kendu’s first wife. During Kendu's divorce, Briana supported Kendu completely, despite being ignored by him (and Mary) when she was reportedly pregnant and homeless.

Kendu has been linked with a few other celebrities. Since he works for a celebrity management company, he is reported to have dated many of his female clients. He has been linked with Nia Long, Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, and Kimora Lee Simons.
