Karl Glusman is an American actor who came into limelight with his role in the movie ‘Love’. Glusman began acting professionally in the late 2000s and rose to prominence in 2015 when his movie set a record at the Cannes Film Festival. Before venturing into acting, Glusman wanted to become a businessman but decided his calling was entertainment. He started off with a few commercials and then made minor appearances in low-key films. He also starred as a recurring character in the mini TV series ‘No 6.’ His luck turned with the released of ‘Love’, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and drew a huge audience. After this, Glusman acted in the crime thriller ‘Nocturnal Animals’ and the Netflix original series ‘Gypsy’: he received critical acclaim for his performance in both of them. He was recently in the news after his engagement to Zoe Kravitz was announced in the Rolling Stone.
Karl Glusman realized he wanted to become an actor while studying at Portland State University. He decided to drop out and enroll himself in various acting courses to pursue his dream. He first attended the Portland Actors Conservatory and then moved to New York to join William Esper Studio. His career in the entertainment industry started when he appeared in various commercials, including a TV advertisement for Adidas. He also made a minor appearance in the 2008 film ‘The Iconographer’. After this, he landed a recurring role in 2011 when he was cast as Yoming in the mini TV series ‘No. 6.’ Karl appeared in all of the six episodes. He didn’t have much luck in the next couple of years and was only seen in two short films, ‘Blow Up’ (2012) and ‘Summer House (2013).
His breakthrough moment arrived when he moved to France and was introduced to Gaspar Noe, an Argentinian-French film director. Gaspar subsequently cast Karl in ‘Love’ (2015), a movie that broke conventional sexual boundaries. Owing to its controversial storyline, the movie was widely spoken about by the critics. It debuted at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival amidst much fanfare. During the Cannes film festival, he met Tom Ford, a fashion designer and movie director. Ford, who was impressed with Glusman’s acting skills, decided to cast him in his upcoming movie ‘Nocturnal Animals’ (2016). In the interim, he appeared in several other films, such as ‘Stonewall’ (2015), ‘Embers’ (2015), and ‘The Neon Demon’ (2016). He was also seen in an episode of the TV series ‘One Bad Choice’ as Cooper Lund in 2015.
Glusman’s next biggest role came when he was cast as Sam Duffy in the Netflix original ‘Gypsy’ (2017). His co-stars included acting stalwarts such as Naomi Watts, Billy Crudup, and Sophie Cookson. The series was successful and critically praised by many owing to its different story. Karl is currently working on several projects that are scheduled for release in 2019. He will be seen in the thriller movie ‘Above Suspicion’ and in the drama movie starring Tom Hanks titled ‘Greyhound’. He has also been announced as the lead for the thriller TV series ‘Devs’, which is scheduled to be released in 2020.
