Karen made a name for herself as a Puerto Rican-American model in 1984. She was selected as Playboy magazine’s Playmate of the Month in December 1984.

Subsequently, she was selected as the Playmate of the Year in 1985. Her TV credits include appearances and footages in various documentaries, including ‘Playboy Video Magazine, Vol. 8’ in 1985, ‘Playboy Playmates of the Year: The 80’s’ in 1989, ‘Playboy: Wet & Wild’ in 1989, and finally in ‘Playboy: Playmates Bustin’ Out’ in 2000. When the issue of Playmate Review was later released, she graced its cover. This achievement earned her fame and popularity. Since 1985, she also became a popular figure for magazine covers.

In 1986, she appeared in the Playboy’s’ Cover Girls edition in the US. She also was seen as the model for ‘The Right Note for Holiday Giving’ in the January issue of Playboy US in 1986. In March 1987, she appeared as a model in Playboy’s Book of Lingerie and later in Playboy’s Wet and Wild Women in July. In 1989, she appeared in the editions of Playboy’s Girls of Summer and Playboy’s Bathing Beauties. In October 1990, she appeared in Playboy’s Nudes. Since then, her work was mostly relegated to her fame in the mid-1980s and Karen’s fame was short-lived.

Despite being known as a ‘knockout’ with her beautiful looks, she decided to retrace her steps from modelling and pursue an alternate career toward the end of the 1990s. After a sharp, unlikely turn, Karen decided to enter the field of wellness and healing. She studied hypnotism and earned a certificate as a hypnotherapist. She currently works as a master hypnotherapist and certified hypnotist. She also recently branched her career after opening a life-coach industry.

Karen Velez was born on 27 January 1961, in Rockville Centre, Long Island, New York. Information about her early years or her parents isn’t available. She was previously married to the actor Lee Majors from 1988 to 1994; however, the couple decided to end their relationship with a divorce. They have three children: Nikki Majors, Dane Majors, and Trey Majors. Nikki Majors followed her mother’s footsteps and entered the world of glamour. Like her mother, she also graced the covers of Playboy in 2008.

After Karen’s relationship with Majors ended, she started dating Vic Ventimiglia Jr. The duo married each other in June 1999. The couple split up in August 2004. Since then, Karen has kept her personal life under wraps and has not revealed any information about her relationships to the public.
