Johann Urb is an American-Estonian actor, model and producer known mostly for portraying a significant character in the ‘Resident Evil’ film franchise. He moved to New York with his father while he was a teenager and started modelling for several brands and walked the ramp for many designers. He had acting on his mind and he auditioned for several TV shows and movies before landing his breakthrough role in the comedy film ‘Zoolander’, which apparently opened ways for him in Hollywood. Several other big and small projects followed, but exposure was lacking. In order to pay the bills, he agreed to do a small roles such as an episode for ‘CSI: Miami’ and a short film titled ‘Fear of Feathers’. Several smaller roles in films and TV followed and Johann became frustrated with the way his career was progressing. Bigger roles in big budget films such as ‘2012’ and ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ followed and people started recognizing the talent hidden behind good looks. His biggest claim to fame remains these two mega budget films along with a low budget film called ‘Hottie and the Nottie’. Presently, he has confirmed starring in two romantic comedies that are under production.
Childhood & Early Life
Born and brought in Tallin, Estonia on 24th January 1977, Johann Urb is son of Tarmo and Maris Urb. The family finally settled in Tampere after searching for good enough neighbourhoods for their children to grow up in. However, Johann had some big dreams that his parents were well aware of, and they knew Estonia wasn’t the right place for him to seek his future, so his father made a move to New York city while Johann was just a 17 years old boy.
He had a penchant for modelling since his early years. He had a great built and features, which helped him to pursue a modelling career in the US. Several meets and auditions later, Johann managed to grab some modelling assignments and in order to hone his acting talents further, he went to a drama school in Manhattan, NYC and once he was out of it, he started auditioning for roles in films and TV.

Johann’s keen dedication to his craft landed him a role in ‘Zoolander’, a 2001 comedy film starring biggies like Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller. He played a bodyguard in the mad comedy film. His role was crucial as a newcomer, but didn’t do much good for the young actor.
Johann had to wait two more years for any significant break in acting and during this time, all he got was a short film titled ‘Fear of Feathers’. He auditioned for a role in the popular long running crime series ‘CSI: Miami’ and landed a small role in an episode and that stint ended just then and there.
‘The Mountain’, another short running TV series came his way in 2004, but was cancelled soon after and Johann started doing small roles in films and TV series such as ‘All in’, ‘Life Happens’, ‘Bank Job’, ‘Love’s Long Journey’, ‘Entourage’ among many others. In 2006, his two episode stint with the TV series ‘The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman’ got him a good critical reception, but not the commercial success that Johann was looking for.
His appeared in the suspense film ‘1408’ and the high voltage drama film ‘Hired Gun’, starring Michael Madsen, and some more films later, he got selected for the role as a pilot in the apocalypse drama film ‘2012’, which was dubbed as the biggest film of that year.
In 2008 came ‘Hottie and the Nottie’, which is also said to be his very first major role in a movie and in form of ‘Eastwick’ came a fantasy TV show where Johann played a journalist. In 2012, came the ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’, where he portrayed the role of Leon Kennedy, a major role which eventually helped him set his footing on the slippery surface of Hollywood.
In 2014, Johann was seen playing a significant role in ‘NCIS’ , where he played Burt Moore and more lately, Johann has been seen doing single episode stints in ‘Agent X’ and ‘Royal Pains’. There also have been talks of him coming with major roles in two romantic comedy films in near future, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
He starred with Perrey Reeves in a few episodes of the comedy-drama TV series ‘Entourage’. Perrey accepted in one of her interviews that she had been dating Johann Urb for quite a while. Johann’s present relationship status is unknown.
