Even when Koehler was in California, he loved spending time in the water, often going for swimming or surfing in the ocean. However, it was during his stay in Alabama that he began to develop a deep passion for scuba diving and freediving. He would often go fishing and explore the Chattahoochee River. While he did not have a boat, he used creative methods, like paddling on a surfboard, to get to the other side of the river or various small islands for perfect fishing spots. Sometimes, he simply swam with all his swimming gear to the aforementioned locations. At some point, he came up with the idea of taking a pair of goggles with him on these excursions.

The first time he saw what was beneath the Chattahoochee River, he was completely mesmerised. There were hundreds of lost fishing lures, GoPros, and iPhones that lay forgotten on the bottom of the riverbed. He subsequently decided to look for anything of value among all that lost gear and remove some of the trash from the riverbed in the process. Later, he began filming these experiences and sharing them on YouTube.

Koehler created his YouTube channel on January 31, 2011, and posted the first video, titled ‘Black Ops Most Insane Tomahawk Fail EVER! | DALLMYD’, on February 4, 2011. In those early days, he exclusively uploaded gaming videos on the channel. However, despite the immense popularity of gaming content in general, ‘DALLMYD’ did not really attract that much attention during this period. On November 19, 2013, he posted his first video involving a water sport, titled ‘River Surfing in Georgia | DALLMYD’.

He put out his first diving video, titled ‘Searching for River Treasure! | DALLMYD’, on October 18, 2015. Things began to change after this. He received a multitude of requests for another diving video and was happy to comply. Soon enough, his videos were receiving unprecedented views. This eventually convinced him to switch to exclusively making diving videos. Since then, ‘DALLMYD’ has become one of the biggest channels on the platform. These days, each of his videos receives millions of views. Some of the most popular videos on the channel are ‘Found Jewelry Underwater in River While Scuba Diving for Lost Valuables! (Unbelievable)’, ‘I Found a Fidget Spinner, 5 Phones and a Bike Underwater in the River! (Scuba Diving)’, ‘Found Lost iPhone 7 in River While Scuba Diving! (w/ Girlfriend) | DALLMYD’, and ‘Found Possible Murder Weapon Underwater in River! (Police Called) | DALLMYD’.

While he still develops most of his videos around the Chattahoochee River, he has travelled to places like Hawaii and Montana to film his content. He is often accompanied by Brandon Jordon (Jiggin’ with Jordon) and Tristan Yaptengco (Yappy Twan Twan) on his treasure hunts. He has maintained a prominent presence on social media beyond YouTube. On Twitter, he has tens of thousands of followers, while on Instagram, he has over two hundred thousand followers. He is currently represented by Michael Gordon of Fullscreen.

Family & Personal Life

Born on December 18, 1991, in Georgia, Jake is one of the two children of Lori and Timothy Koehler. His mother is a hairstylist while his father is a retired military officer. He has grown up in Huntington Beach, California, along with his two older half-brothers, Andrew Gotham and Thomas Gotham, and a younger sister, Hannah. Due to his father’s profession, the family moved around a lot when Koehler was young. After he graduated from Huntington Beach High School, he moved to his family’s native state of Alabama.

At present, he resides in Columbus, Georgia near the Chattahoochee River. He has been in a relationship with fellow social media personality Kyndall Johnson since 2017. They have made appearances on each other’s social media posts numerous times.

Koehler even spends most of his free time around water, surfing, jet skiing, or relaxing on the river.
