Georgia Box is an English R&B, pop, and folk singer and songwriter. A social media sensation as well, she has been tipped to be the next Rita Ora. A native of Essex, Georgia started to sing even before she could properly talk. She has always loved music and performing for others. As a child, she was a fan of the British television talent series ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ and used to dress up like the celebrities who appeared there and put on performances for her family. Box accumulated professional experience by doing gigs, radio shows, and TV shows, and by singing backing vocals for other artistes. After receiving a three-year degree in professional performance from a prestigious college, she started making videos of herself singing and uploaded them on Facebook and YouTube. As of March 2018, she has garnered over 90 million views on her content and has emerged as one of the most promising stars in the industry today. In August 2016, Box released her debut Extended Play, ‘Love Languages’.
Georgia Box debuted on stage in 2003 with a Royal Opera House London’s production of Leoš Janáček’s ‘The Cunning Little Vixen’. Her television debut came about in the same year, in ITV’s ‘The Pride of Britain Awards’. In the subsequent years, she appeared in productions of Bedřich Smetana’s ‘The Bartered Bride’ (2015) at the Royal Opera House London and the musical ‘Move It’ (2013) at London Olympia. She was also active as a solo performer, singing at various festivals and award ceremonies.
After she left school, Box decided to devote herself completely to pursuing a career in the music industry. Besides doing local gigs, she started to use social media to reach a wider audience. She recorded herself covering famous artists and uploaded them on her Facebook and YouTube accounts. In November 2014, she uploaded her cover of ‘Chandelier’ by Sia. This was her first video that went viral. Her popularity only increased after she posted the female response to Shaggy’s ‘It Wasn't Me’ in July 2017. The video has garnered over 30 million views on Facebook.
On August 5, 2016, she put out her debut EP, ‘Love Languages’. It contained five songs, ‘Someone You Love’, ‘Again’, ‘Love Languages’, ‘Yours’ and ‘Tonight’, and was well-received by the audience. She has since released three more singles, ‘Questions’ and ‘Rockstar’ in 2017 and ‘I Don’t Want You Anymore’ in 2018.
Since the release of her EP, several management companies and renowned songwriters have shown interest in working with her. She was courted by the creators of both ‘The Voice’ and ‘The X Factor’ for an appearance on the respective shows but she declined both offers, preferring to work her way to success in a more traditional route.
