Ellyse Perry is an Australian sportswoman and the first Australian to represent the nation internationally in both cricket and soccer. She made her international cricket and soccer debut less than 2 weeks apart. Ellyse is regarded as the youngest player to make her debut for both the Australian women's national cricket team and the Australia women's national soccer team. She is an all-rounder, equally skilled as a right-handed batswoman and a fast-medium bowler. In soccer, Ellyse plays as a defender. Even though both the soccer and the cricket associations want to retain her in their respective sports, she has faced the struggle to choose between one, in the past. Ellyse has even accepted that she might have to give up one of the two sports in the future.

Childhood & Early Life
Ellyse Alexandra Perry was born on November 3, 1990, in Wahroonga, a suburb in Sydney, Australia. She attended 'Beecroft Public School' and then graduated from 'Pymble Ladies' College' in 2008. Ellyse is studying economics and social science at the 'University of Sydney.'
While in school, Ellyse played tennis, athletics, touch football, and golf, along with soccer and cricket. At 'Pymble,' she held the captainship of the college's athletics and cricket teams.
In January 2007, soon after she turned 16, Ellyse was drafted by the 'New South Wales' for the under-19 interstate tournament. She played extremely well and took three wickets, which led her state to win all three matches. A month later, she was selected as part of the 'Australia Youth' team for a New Zealand tour. Unfortunately, she underperformed in the tour.
Ellyse was then fast-tracked into the senior national team.

Cricket Career
As a national team player, Ellyse made her one-day international (ODI) debut on July 22, 2007, against New Zealand, in Darwin. With this, she became the youngest Australian (male or female) ODI cricketer. Despite having no experience at the senior (non-youth) level, she ended her debut tournament quite impressively, with four wickets at 30.50.
Ellyse made her debut in the 'Women's National Cricket League' (WNCL), playing for 'New South Wales' during the 2007–2008 Australian summers. She recorded her first ‘WNCL’ wicket against Karen Rolton, the best-rated cricketer in the world at the time. Ellyse made her batting debut in the second match of the double-header.
On February 15, 2008, at the age of 17 years and 3 months, Ellyse became the youngest Australian Test cricketer ever. She underperformed in the inaugural 'Women's World Twenty20' tournament held in England in 2009.
Ellyse recorded her highest limited-overs-cricket score in the 2009–2010 ‘WNCL.’ She was named the ‘Player of the Match’ in the 2010 'World Twenty20' final, while Australia won the series. In contrast to her international performances, Ellyse did not play too well in domestic Twenty20 cricket.
Ellyse was the opening bowler in the 2013 'ICC Women's Cricket World Cup' held in India. However, she was on painkiller injection in her ankle for the final. In June 2015, she recorded the highest runs and took the most wickets in the 2015 'Women's Ashes' tour in England and was awarded the ‘Player of the Series.’
In 2015, Ellyse was the captain of her 'Sydney Sixers' team in the first season of the 'Twenty20 Women's Big Bash League’ and finished at the second place.
On November 17, 2018, Ellyse played against India in the 2018 'ICC Women's World Twenty20' and became the first Australian (male or female) to play in 100 Twenty20 international matches. She played in the final against England and became the first Australian cricketer to take 100 wickets in Twenty20 international matches.
In 2019, Ellyse became the fourth female cricketer to hit two consecutive centuries in the 'Ashes' Test. In the second ‘WT20I’ match of the 'Women's Ashes,’ she became the first (male or female) to record 1,000 runs and to take 100 wickets in Twenty-20 international cricket.
Soccer Career
Ellyse made her international soccer debut on August 4, 2007, with a qualifying match for the 'Olympics,' against Hong Kong, at the 'Hong Kong Football Club.' Her domestic soccer debut happened in the 2008–2009 season of the ‘Australian W-League,' for the 'Central Coast Mariners.'

Ellyse joined 'Canberra United' for the 2009 'W-League' season. That year, she shared the 'Young Player of the Year Award' with Elise Kellond-Knight of 'Brisbane Roar.' Ellyse won the overall ‘Club Player of the Year’ honor that season.
In 2010, Ellyse turned down the offer to play at the 2010 'AFC Women's Asian Cup,' to join her team in the 'ICC World Twenty20.'
Ellyse played at the 2011 'FIFA Women's World Cup' in Germany and became the first Australian woman to represent the country in a senior ‘World Cup’ series for two different sports.
In 2012, chief executive of 'Canberra United FC,' Heather Reid, asked Ellyse to choose between soccer and cricket. She later signed with 'Sydney FC' for the 2012–2013 season so that she could stay in Sydney and continue her cricket career and university studies simultaneously.
The new 'Matildas' coach Hesterine de Reus announced that Ellyse would be dropped from the soccer team, as she was not playing the sport enough per year to maintain the international standard.
Ellyse has hosted the 'Triple J' radio breakfast segment 'Perry Good Sports Woman,' along with Tom Ballard and Alex Dyson. In 2013, 'SportsPro' magazine named her the most marketable Australian athlete and the 36th-most marketable sportsperson in the world. She has also featured in a 'Jockey' underwear commercial.
In 2016, Ellyse published a series of children’s books with Sheryl Clark that pictured her as a young sports enthusiast and chronicled her transition from primary to high school, along with friends Charlie and Jazz.

On October 24, 2013, Ellyse announced her relationship with Australian rugby player Matt Toomua, at the ‘John Eales Medal’ ceremony. They got engaged on August 20, 2014, and got married on December 19, 2015.
Trivia
During one of the ‘WBBL’ matches, a ball Perry hit into the crowd hit a 13-year-old boy after the ball deflected from a chair. After noticing that the ball had hit the boy, Perry rushed to check the boy’s welfare and direct the medics to his location. The boy was taken to hospital. Later, Perry called the boy to check on his well-being.
