It all began in April 2013, with Dobrik’s Vine debut. The amusing antics and inventive improvs of the 17-year old Dobrik quickly attracted the attention of fellow-Viners, and soon Dobrik started garnering a steady following, with teenage girls doting upon him. While most of his initial videos featured solo improvs, Dobrik soon started collaborating with popular Viners like Gabrielle Hanna, Alex Ernst and Brandon Calvillo. Meanwhile, the YouTube channel ‘Second Class’, which David co-hosted with his long-time friends – Cameron Kasper, Jack Dytrych, Jake Webber, and Bren Lunn – was making waves and reaffirming his prowess as a gifted comic. And just like that, in the snap of a finger, David Dobrik established himself as one among the most sought-after vloggers around.

Unlike most of his ilk, Dobrik doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who meticulously plans out his career, and this ‘likeable slacker’ image has been one of the key ingredients to his popularity. Not much is known of Dobrik’s early life or his immediate family, though his younger brother and sister feature prominently in his early Vine videos and his tweets. He was born in Kosice, Slovakia, but the family moved to Chicago early in his childhood. Dobrik doesn’t regret missing out on college, and in a recent tweet celebrating the one-million followers mark, Dobrik credited Vine for his success and conceded that had it not been for the video-sharing platform, he “would still be back on the farm in Illinois raising cattle, or worse, going to college.”

With some notable acting credits in TV series like ‘The Honest Show’ and ‘Prank U’; and shorts like ‘An Interrogation', Dobrik seems headed in the right direction as he steps into the labyrinth called the American entertainment industry. It would take more than his talent and looks to make big in the industry – it would take the right stroke of luck at the right time.
