Christopher Velez is an American-Ecuadorian singer, currently a member of the music group ‘CNCO.’ He won the first season of the Spanish-language singing competition ‘La Banda’ in 2015. He, along with other members of the ‘CNCO’ namely, Richard Camacho, Joel Pimentel, Erick Brian Colon, and Zabdiel de Jesus won a five-year record deal with ‘Sony Music Latin.’ The group released their debut album ‘Primera Cita’ in 2016. Their first song ‘Reggaetón Lento (Bailemos)’ received more than a billion views on ‘YouTube.’ Their other singles, such as ‘Tan Fácil’ and ‘Quisiera’ fared well on the music charts across the country. Velez, along with his group members, toured with famous singer Ricky Martin, who was also the judge as well as co-creator of the show. Christopher used to create and post covers on his self titled ‘YouTube’ channel and was planning to study music when he got selected for ‘La Band’ and ended up winning the show. During his time on the show, he sang songs, such as ‘Kilometros de Sin Bandera,’ ‘Creo en ti de Reik,’ and ‘Hoy tengo ganas de tide Alejandro Fernández.’

Christopher Bryant Velez Munoz was born on November 23, 1995, in New Jersey, to Leonardo Velez and Yenny Paulina Munoz Jaramillo. Even though he was born in the US, Christopher lived in Loja, Ecuador, until he was 18 years old. He attended ‘La Salle’ and graduated from the same.
At the age of 18, he returned to the US to support his family. He had planned to move to another country to study music, but his financial condition did not allow so. To keep his interest in music alive, he used to upload his covers and music on his YouTube channel.
While he was working in New Jersey, he got an opportunity to audition for a new show called ‘La Banda,’ co-created by Ricky Martin and Simon Cowell. That’s how his career in music began.

Career
He was selected as a participant in ‘La Banda’ and with time, became a favorite among the audience. He received 85% of the audience vote for the song ‘Tal Vez’ in front of Ricky Martin, Laura Pausini, and Alejandro Sanz during the audition.
He was selected for the show and continued making progress with each episode. On December 15, 2015, he became the first winner of the reality show.
He ruled the hearts of his audience as they supported him all through the show. The winners of the show signed a five-year contract with ‘Sony Music Latin’ with Ricky Martin as their representative.
The group ‘CNCO’ was formed on the finale of the show. The group’s name was inspired from Spanish word ‘Cinco’ which means ‘five.’
On the finale night, they performed ‘Devuélveme Mi Corazón’ together and received good wishes from ‘One Direction’ through a video conference.
The group performed again on the New Year’s Eve in ‘Times Square’ at Univision’s Feliz 2016 celebrations. Their debut single ‘Tan Fácil’ was released on January 29, 2016.
The single debuted at number 25 on ‘Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Play’ and later reached No. 1. It debuted at number 23 on ‘Hot Latin Songs.’
The song also debuted at number 1 on the ‘U.S iTunes Latino’ charts. Their second single ‘Quisiera’ reached the number 29 on ‘Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs.’
In August, 2016, their debut album ‘Primera Cita’ was released. It had fourteen tracks, including remix versions of their songs ‘Quisiera’ and ‘Tan Fácil.’
They also toured with Ricky Martin and performed at the ‘Miami International Mall’ to celebrate their album’s debut. ‘CNCO’ also found a fun way to interact with their fans.
In a game called ‘CNCOGo,’ inspired by ‘PokemonGo,’ they asked their fans to find the name of their upcoming songs through local hotspots. The first song ‘Cometa’ was suggested by their fans from Ecuador.
On October 17, 2016, they released their most successful single ‘Reggaetón Lento (Bailemos),’ that reached number 6 on the ‘Hot Latin Songs’ and number 11 in ‘Billboards Bubbling Under Hot 100.’
In February 2017, the band announced their first tour ‘Más Allá’ for 15 countries and 40 performances. On April 4, 2017, they released their new single ‘Hey DJ’ from their second album.
On October 20, 2017, the group officially released their next single ‘Mamita.’ On February, 2018, they announced the release of their self-titled second album.
Awards & Achievements
In August, 2016, ‘CNCO’ was voted as the ‘Billboard's "Favorite New Latin Boy Band’ along with ‘CD9 second’ and ‘Dvicio Third.’
On February 7, 2017, the boy band one of the four artists to be nominated for ‘Artist of the Year, New’ category at ‘2017 Billboard Latin Music Awards’
