Christopher Atkins is a famous American actor, screenwriter, and producer. He came into prominence in 1980, when he debuted with ‘The Blue Lagoon,’ starring opposite American actor and model Brooke Shields. His debut was a surprise to many of his close friends, as he was never interested in opting for a career in acting. He signed his first movie when he was persuaded to go for an audition by an agent. He started his career with high hopes and was chosen for the role of ‘Richard Lestrange’ in the film from a pool of around 2,000 participants. Though he is best known for his role in ‘The Blue Lagoon,’ he also made his mark as a prominent actor in a lot of films later. Two of his most popular films were ‘The Pirate Movie,’ released in 1982, and ‘A Night in Heaven,’ released in 1983.

Childhood & Early Life
Christopher Atkins was born in Rye, New York, on February 21, 1961. His father, Donald Bomann, was a real-estate agent, and his mother, Bitsy Nebauer, was a science teacher. Both his parents were German–Americans. Atkins was a scuba diver since he was just 16 years old. He loved sailing and was focusing on becoming a doctor in sports medicine. He was working as a sailing instructor and a lifeguard at a high school when he chanced upon his first role as an actor.

Career
His first film, ‘The Blue Lagoon,’ was produced at a cost of just $4.5 million and grossed over $58 million, becoming a big success. This was a huge boost for Christopher Atkins, but he could not impress critics as much as he wished to. He was bombarded with a lot of negative feedback about his acting skills. However, he managed to attract the attention of the audience with his appearance. He was seen wearing nothing but a loincloth in the movie.
Later, in 1982, he co-starred with American comedian, producer, and singer Kristy McNichol for the movie ‘The Pirate Movie.’ This was a sequel to ‘The Pirates of Penzance.’ He also worked as a singer for ‘The Pirate Movie.’ He confessed in an interview that before he worked on the song, he did not have any experience in singing and thus had practiced a lot before recording the song. In September 1982, his song attained the 71st spot on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ chart.
In 1983, Christopher Atkins starred in the movie ‘A Night in Heaven,’ along with American actor and singer Lesley Ann Warren. The movie featured him in the role of an overconfident student named ‘Rick Monroe,’ who was shown struggling to establish himself as an exotic dancer during his college days. In 1983 and 1984, Christopher Atkins was part of the ‘CBS’ primetime soap opera ‘Dallas,’ which featured him in the role of ‘Peter Richards,’ a camp counselor. His character was shown having an affair with the character ‘Sue Ellen Ewing.’
His good looks and charm helped him garner many modeling assignments. Atkins has been featured in many magazines and has posed for the famous American lifestyle magazine ‘Playgirl’ in 1982. He represented many big brands, such as ‘Coke’ and ‘Adidas,’ and appeared in their TV commercials, too.
Atkins has been part of many other movies, such as ‘Fatal Charms,’ ‘Angel Fight Dawn,’ ‘Project Shadowchaser III,’ ‘Spiritual Warriors,’ ‘The Employee of the Month,’ ‘Quigley,’ ‘Tequila Express,’ ‘True Legends of the West,’ and ‘13th Child.’
He appeared as a comedian in films such as ‘Shoot’ in 1992 and ‘Mortuary Academy’ in 1988. He again worked with his first co-star, Brooke Shields, after many years, for a series named ‘Suddenly Susan.’ The series featured him in the role of a journalist.
In 2008, Atkins was part of a direct-to-DVD science-fiction film titled ‘100 Million BC.’ He was also part of a ‘VH1’ reality show that featured former teen idols, ‘Confessions of a Teen Idol.’
He has written scripts for ‘The Fairy King of Ar’ (1998), ‘Pets’ (2002), and ‘29 Minutes & Counting’ (2004). ‘The Fairy King of Ar’ also saw him donning the cap of a producer. He also worked as a producer for ‘Amy’ (2003) and the short film ‘Better Late Than Never’ (2014).
Other than working as an actor, Christopher Atkins has always been passionate about outdoor sports and owns an outdoor sports company. He has patented a fishing lure, too.

Though his career began with a lot of negative feedback, his performance as an actor was acclaimed by many. His was nominated for the ‘Golden Globe Award’ for the ‘New Star of the Year - Male’ for the movie ‘The Blue Lagoon.’ He also got nominated for the ‘Young Artist Award’ for the ‘Best Young Actor.’ Later, he was nominated twice for the ‘Golden Raspberry Award’ for the ‘Worst Actor.’ He won the title for his performance in ‘A Night in Heaven’ in 1983. He ranked 76th on ‘VH1’s list of the ‘100 Greatest Teen Stars.’

Atkins got married to actor Lyn Barron, who is known for her roles in movies such as ‘Centrespread’ and ‘Death Games,’ on May 25, 1985. They had two children, a son, Grant Bomann, born on December 10, 1985, and a daughter, Brittney Bomann, born on May 1, 1987.,Atkins and Lynne got divorced in 2007, 22 years after their marriage.
Atkins struggled with alcoholism for a considerable part of his life and also turned into an irritable and unapproachable person. Later, in 2009, he accepted that he had been an alcoholic in the past and claimed that he had been sober for 22 years.
Christopher Atkins shares an unmatched bond with his first co-star, Brooke Shields. He is reportedly quite approachable when requested to click a photograph or pen an autograph for a fan. He also wholeheartedly donates money to various charitable funds and never declines a fundraiser.
He now has a girlfriend named Sandra Ankarbjork. She lives in a small town called Skovde in Sweden.
