Baekhyun is a budding South Korean singer and actor. He is a member of the South Korean–Chinese boy band ‘Exo.’ He was influenced by South Korean singer and music producer Jung Ji-hoon and started taking music lessons at the age of 11. He was a member of the band ‘Honsusangtae’ during his school days. Later, he was discovered by ‘SM Entertainment’ and became the lead singer of ‘Exo’ after an audition. Baekhyun was a regular host of the ‘SBS’ show ‘Inkigayo’ for a year, along with his ‘Exo’ partner Suho. He appeared as ‘Don Lockwood’ in the South Korean version of the musical ‘Singin’ in the Rain,’ produced by ‘SM Culture & Contents.’ His duet ‘Dream,’ with Suzy from the South Korean girl band ‘Miss A,’ reached the number one spot on online real-time music charts. Baekhyun has also earned a dan 3 belt in the Korean martial art Hapkido. However, he is not too outdoorsy and prefers playing video games instead. He was in a relationship with Kim Tae-yeon of the band ‘Girl’s Generation.’ He is currently believed to be single.

Childhood & Early Life
Byun Baek-hyun was born on May 6, 1992, in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. He has an elder brother named Byun Baek-beom.
He was influenced by South Korean singer, actor, and music producer Jung Ji-hoon, better known as “Rain,” and started taking music lessons at the age of 11. He learnt the piano from Kim Hyun-woo, a member of the South Korean rock band ‘DickPunks.’
He studied at ‘Jungwon High School’ in Bucheon and was the lead singer of the band ‘Honsusangtae.’ The band won a local music festival during his school days. He was discovered by ‘SM Entertainment’ while he was preparing for the ‘Seoul Institute of the Arts’ entrance exams and later joined ‘SM Entertainment’ in 2011 after an audition.

Career
He became the ninth member of the South Korean–Chinese boy band ‘Exo’ in January 2012 and started performing as their lead singer. The band soon gained popularity, and this proved to be a stepping stone for Baekhyun.
By 2014, he became a regular host of the ‘SBS’ show ‘Inkigayo,’ along with his ‘Exo’ partner Suho. By the end of the year, he quit the show to concentrate on his band.
In July 2014, he made his musical theater debut with his portrayal of ‘Don Lockwood’ in the South Korean version of the musical ‘Singin’ in the Rain,’ produced by ‘SM Culture & Contents.’
In April 2015, he released his debut solo single, ‘Beautiful,’ as the soundtrack of the web-drama series ‘Exo Next Door.’ It became the first song from a web drama to top the digital charts.
In December 2015, he performed the number ‘Like Rain Like Music’ at the ‘SBS’ annual music program as a tribute to the original singer of the track, the late Kim Hyun-sik. The song was subsequently recorded and released digitally.
He released the duet ‘Dream,’ with Suzy from the South Korean girl band ‘Miss A,’ in January 2016. The song reached the number one spot on online real-time music charts and on ‘Gaon’s ‘Weekly Digital Chart.’ The number also won the first position on the TV shows ‘Music Bank’ and ‘Inkigayo.’
His duet ‘The Day,’ with singer K Will, became a popular folk-ballad duet on ‘SM Entertainment’s music project, ‘SM Station.’ Over the years, Baekhyun has developed his signature style of music that has become popular throughout South Korea and Asia.
In August 2016, he made his TV debut with the historical drama series ‘Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo,’ which was based on a Chinese novel. His performance received positive reviews and won him the ‘New Star Award’ at the 2016 ‘SBS Drama Awards.’
In October 2016, he formed a sub group of ‘Exo’ named ‘Exo-CBX,’ with Chen and Xiumin. They released their debut EP, ‘Hey Mama,’ featuring five tracks of a variety of genres.

Baekhyun had built a large fan following by the end of 2016. He soon began participating in the multiplayer online battle arena video game ‘League of Legends’ on ‘SM Entertainment.’ His performance in the ‘League of Legends’ tournament ‘2016 SM Super Celeb League’ helped him gain a large fan following in South Korea and China.
His 2017 duet ‘Rain,’ with Soyou from the girl band ‘Sistar,’ was another success. The song reached the number one position on almost all the digital music charts of South Korea. His single ‘Take You Home’ reached number 12 on the ‘Gaon Digital Chart.’
He is currently collaborating with rapper Loco for his next release.

He dated Kim Tae-yeon of the band ‘Girl’s Generation’ from 2014 to 2015, but the couple broke up later. He is currently believed to be single.
Trivia
He was offered a starring role in the action film ‘Dokgo,’ alongside Yeo Jin-goo, in May 2015. However, the production of the film was canceled.
Baekhyun sang the South Korean national anthem during the meeting of the ‘International Olympic Committee’ before the 2018 ‘Winter Olympics.’
He collaborated with ‘Privé’ to launch his own streetwear brand, ‘Privé by BBH,’ in July 2018.
