Childhood & Early Life

Bad Bunny was born as Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio on March 10, 1994, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Bad Bunny was raised by his parents Benito Martínez and Lysaurie Ocasio Declet. While his father Martínez works as a truck driver, his mother Lysaurie works as a school teacher. Bad Bunny spent his childhood in Vega Baja, along with his two younger brothers.

He started singing at a very young age after listening to an album of the famous reggaeton rapper, Vico C. By the time he was 5, Bad Bunny had decided that he wanted to be a singer. At the age of thirteen, he started writing songs and even produced some of his own songs.

Bad Bunny attended ‘The University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo’ and studied audiovisual communication. However, he dropped out of the university to focus solely on his musical career. In order to take care of his expense, he started working as a bagger at a local supermarket. At the same time, he was also focusing on creating music.

Career

Bad Bunny had created a song called ‘Diles’ and had uploaded it on the online audio distribution platform, SoundCloud. The song was heard by many, including music producer DJ Luian. Luian was impressed with Bad Bunny’s singing skills and hence signed him. Bad Bunny became a regular artist for the record label ‘Hear this Music’ and also started collaborating with popular musicians.

In 2017, he joined hands with the Colombian singer J Balvin, and was featured in Balvin’s hit number ‘Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola.’ Bad Bunny was also featured in Becky G's single, titled ‘Mayores.’ In the same year, Bad Bunny went on to sign a booking deal with ‘Cardenas Marketing Network' (CMN).

He then collaborated with J Balvin and Prince Royce, and released a song titled ‘Sensualidad,’ which claimed the tenth spot in the ‘Hot Latin Songs’ chart. Bad Bunny also released his single ‘Tú No Metes Cabra’ on November 2017, which took the 38th spot in ‘Hot Latin Songs’ chart.

Bad Bunny’s collaboration with famous artists increased his popularity. He eventually became one of the most sought after trap artists and started acquiring international audiences. Bad Bunny also became an internet sensation with more than four billion views on YouTube. He has a massive fan following on his official Instagram account as well. On Spotify, Bad Bunny attracts 65 million listeners every month.

Many of Bad Bunny’s songs have not only made it to various music charts, but were also nominated at prestigious award shows. His song ‘Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola’ was nominated at ‘Latin Grammy Awards’ under ‘Best Urban Song’ and ‘Best Urban Performance’ categories. One of his works was nominated at ‘Premios Juventud’ in the year 2017.

In January 2018, Bad Bunny began a campaign to save the life of a young boy. Bad Bunny used his popularity to raise funds for the boy, who had to undergo a heart transplant surgery. Bad Bunny also donated $100,000 in an attempt to save the boy.
Bad Bunny is a huge fan of wrestling. His Instagram page has many wrestling-related photos and videos. He has uploaded many pictures, clicked along with WWE superstars like Ronda Rousey and Goldberg. WWE legend Ric Flair has appeared in one of his music videos.
