Michael York began his acting career in 1956 with stage. After appearances in some episodes of a few TV-series during 1964-1967, he played ‘Jolyon Forsyte’ in the TV-series ‘The Forsyte Saga’ (1967) and made his film debut as ‘Lucentio’ in the period romantic-comedy ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ (1967), followed by ‘Accident,’ ‘Red & Blue’ and ‘Smashing Time’ (all in 1967).
York next appeared as ‘Tybalt’ in ‘Romeo & Juliet’ (1968), before starring as the lead in the black comedy ‘Something for Everyone’ (1970) as a World War I soldier in the action war film ‘Zeppelin’ (1971), as ‘Brian Roberts’ in the film adaption of the musical ‘Cabaret’ (1972), as ‘Pip’ in the TV film ‘Great Expectations’ (1974), and as ‘John the Baptist’ in the epic miniseries ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ (1977).
York played ‘D’Artagnan’ in the film adaption of ‘The Three Musketeers’ (1973), ‘The Four Musketeers’ (1974), and the third part, ‘The Return of Musketeers’ (1989). He appeared as a British soldier ‘Lt. Drake’ posted in India, in the drama film ‘Conduct Unbecoming’ (1975), while in the cult classic sci-fi action film ‘Logan’s Run’ (1976), he played the lead role as ‘Logan.’
Michael York co-starred as ‘Andrew Braddock’ in the sci-fi horror-film ‘The Island of Dr. Moreau’ (1977) and lead as the Holocaust survivor in the drama film ‘For Those I Loved’ (1983). He starred in numerous TV films, including ‘Dark Mansions’ (1986), ‘The Lady & the Highwayman’ (1989), ‘Duel of Hearts’ (1991), ‘The Ring’ (1996), and ‘Icon’ (2005).
York received Emmy nominations for his performance in ‘ABC Afterschool Special: Are You My Mother?’ (1986) and the comedy drama series ‘The Lot’ (2001). In the soap opera ‘Knots Landing’ (1987-1988), he played ‘Charles Scott,’ in the sci-fi TV series ‘SeaQuest 2032’ (1996), he appeared as ‘President Bourne,’ and played ‘King Arthur’ in the TV film ‘A Knight in Camelot’ (1998). He starred as ‘Stone Alexander’ in the apocalyptic thriller film ‘The Omega Code’ (1999), and its sequel, ‘Megiddo: The Omega Code 2’ (2001).
York played ‘Prof. Asher Fleming’ in the comedy-drama series ‘Gilmore Girls’ (2003-2004), and in the spy action-comedy film-series ‘Basil Exposition,’ he appeared as ‘Austin Powers’ (1997, 1999, 2002). He also guest-appeared in many TV-series, including ‘Babylon 5,’ ‘Sliders,’ ‘Law &Order: Criminal Intent’ and more.
York provided voice for various projects, including ‘Justice League Unlimited,’ ‘Batman: The Animated Series,’ ‘Superman: The Animated Series,’ ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars,’ ‘The Simpsons,’ ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,’ and many more. He has narrated several audio books, including ‘The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe,’ documentaries such as ‘The Long Way home,’ and entire Bible for ‘The Word of Promise: Audio Bible.’
