Rupert Pupkin, an aspiring comedian who has never performed for a real audience, is obsessed with the idea of being a celebrity like his idol, talk-show host Jerry Langford. After a brief exchange with Langford, Rupert assumes that now he’ll get his big chance. When he fails to reach Langford, Rupert decides to kidnap him to gain a break in his show.

 The story depicts Sally Bowels, a well-known character created by Christopher Isherwood, as a young American cabaret singer in 1931 Berlin. The plot thickens when a young British academic arrives at her boardinghouse. The film, which has won numerous distinguished awards including eight Oscars, focuses as much on their relationship as on rising Nazism of that time.

The story focuses on four Manhattan friends, Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda, each busy with her own set of problems. Among them, Samantha is a career woman, who is to devise a PR campaign for a sheikh's business in Abu Dhabi. Eventually the four friends fly off on an all-expenses-paid luxury trip to Abu Dhabi, not realizing that the country is run by more conservative laws.
